I'm working toward being meatless, but being soy intolerant limits me in a few ways. At this time, I've given up all but some poultry. I'm looking for alternatives to soy and, unfortunately, most of the vegetarian frozen products aren't. I've tried some of the recipes I've seen on the list and I've enjoyed them. Thanks to all who contribute.
Guest guest
Hi Denise, welcome to the group. Have you tried Quorn? It's great, and no soy. Guest guest
Hi Joyce! I'm pretty new here myself, but have found everyone to be so helpful and friendly. I think you will like it here. I'm with you on the treatment of animals, and have stopped wearing make-up because they test it on rabbits to see if it blinds them. I've learned to like the way I look without makeup on, and my face doesn't feel all dirty with all the makeup I used to put on. Animal issues are my biggest reason for going vegetarian - I am now trying to go vegan - which is pretty easy for me - I am lactose intolerant, so I don't drink milk, I use soy milk, or rice milk. And butter - I've found a vegan source of margarine called Earth's Balance that tastes just fine to me. And I bought my first packages of soy cheddar cheese and soy mozzarella cheese, to see how they taste to me. And I don't particularly like eggs anyway, never ate them as a meal, just used them in baking, and I have replaced them with EnerG egg replacer, no problem. You will get to the point where the smell of meat cooking will nauseate you, because at the moment of slaughter, the animal's glands secrete urea, and that gets into their muscles and produces a particular nasty smell, that you hadn't noticed before, but you WILL notice it the longer you stay on the vegetarian lifestyle. And for me, that is going vegan, which seems to be the easiest way. Good luck and good for you for choosing this humane AND healthy lifestyle! peace, Annie - Joyce Tuesday, November 17, 2009 4:02 PM [veg_grp] new here I want to introduce myself. My name is Joyce.I just started a vegitarian eating plan.I have been on it just a week.My husband doesn't understand at all.Hope to get to know some of you and share recipies. I don't want to be a part of the way animals are treated. It makes me sick! I also think this way of eating is healthier.
Guest guest
Hi: Obediently posting as requested. I just joined because I want to eat healthier and have recently found red meat and pork to be gross. I mean, the cooking smell sickens me. Then if I eat any I get nauseous. I also would like to learn how to cook tofu so I find it acceptable. I have already seen quite a few delicious-looking recipes posted on this group. Thanks!
