Guest guest
I just bought a Vita-Mix and am super excited! I'm going to start experimenting with it today (green smoothies). If my boys will drink those I will freeze a bunch of kale for over the winter. In the store they demonstrated ice cream that was ice, frozen strawberries, juice concentrate, tomato, and cabbage. My 4 year old loved it. Now that's my kind of dessert. Paula (who can't wait to get blending)
Guest guest
Do you already make green smoothies for your boys? What are their ages? What is the recipe and do they like them already? Guest guest
Hi, They have smoothies almost everyday. We don't really follow a recipe but they essentially contain a few of the following: -some sort of fruit (whatever is local or I have frozen) + typically banana -avacado or silken tofu or yogurt -soya milk -flax oil -sometimes agave nectar if the fruit is a bit tart I have done green smoothies but my blender wasn't the best (after 15 years it finally quit) so it couldn't really do kale. I used spinach but it left bits. They will drink them but I haven't done it in awhile because of the blender. Now that it has died we use the immersion blender which isn't good enough for the kale etc (at least mine isn't). My boys are 6 and 4 (and 4 months but he doesn't get smoothies yet!!). Yes, three boys. They will eat me out of house and home one day. Paula
Guest guest
It's been on mine too (along with diamond earrings and tennis bracelet but I didn't get those either). My DH doesn't think it's worth it so I went out and got it myself. I saved money from my birthday, hockey pool winnings, etc. Since the blender died we needed something. DH doesn't know I have it yet. Uh oh! Guest guest
A couple of smoothie recipes that I like are: 1 banana 3 dried apricots 2 dried figs 1 stalk of celery OR 1 kale leaf Soak the apricots and figs overnight in a jar with 1 1/2 cup of water.Store in the fridge.Pour water and fruit into vitamix, add banana and blend till smooth.Add celery OR kale and blend till smooth. 1 cup spinach 1 cup romaine 1 cup collards 1/2 cup pineapple chunks 1 cup water 5 almonds blend almonds, pineapple and water till smooth.Add greens and blend till smooth. Both these recipes are a little to sweet for me as is,so I adjust them to my preference.I am told that the second one turns out a very bright green(I'm colorblind),and really makes my mom grimace when she sees me drinking it.So sometimes I omit the pineapple and throw in some frozen mixed berries to sweeten and adjust the color to something less offensive. I can't remember where I first got these recipes, maybe greensmoothiegirl.com,which is a very informative site with some good recipes as well.(Although she uses a blendtec) :'( Hope you try these and like 'em. Guest guest
Sounds like you are getting them off to a good start. I have 2 sons and 5 daughters and 12 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. My second oldest daughter has 5 sons.... they are ages 16, twins 11, then 8 and 5. She is beginning to understand what being " eaten out of house and home actually, TRULY means now.....lol! My two sons grew up to both be a tad over 6' 2 " so I well remember the days of them " inhaling " everything that was in the refrigerator! Nancy C. Hi, They have smoothies almost everyday. Guest guest
We just got one this week! It'll be here next week! I'm so excited! I killed mine(the old blender) last week-somehow, the shaft cracked or something. I think I broke it on a frozen banana or something. I eat raw mostly, so maybe it just couldn't handle my green smoothies in the amounts I make them! Anyway, I can't wait! Caitlyn
Guest guest
Those recipes look terrific (and I usually have the ingredients on hand). My eldest used to be obsessed (and I mean obsessed) with the colour green. I wish I would have started green smoothies back then! Do you tear the collars/kale into pieces or just put the whole leaf in? What about the stem? I'll check out that website.
