Guest guest
I'll post this, so I can print it. I've been making this for years. Today, I didn't use real bacon. It was BETTER!!! Morningstar bacon rocks. I never realized it was a vegetarian dish. Oven on 350. Acquire these ingredients: 1 can whole water chestnuts, brown sugar, Teriyaki for Marinade, by Kinkomans, 2 containers. (It is the thick stuff, and it costs more, but trust me....), Morningstar Bacon, takes one box. Wooden toothpicks Drain and rinse can of whole water chestnuts. put aside. In a Pyrex micro waveable bowl, mix 1 cup of Terriyaki Marinade, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, mix well. Heat for a couple of minutes on high, in the microwave. Pour it into a bowl. Separate about 1/3rd of it, you'll want it for your sauce on the table. In the bowl with the 2/3rds of sauce you made, soak the whole water chestnuts for about 15 minutes. Prepare a cookie sheet, and I add tin foil, cause you'll have a mess if you don't.I spray the tinfoil, on the cookie sheet, with Pam. Grab your tooth picks. Open the bag of Morningstar bacon, and only use half the bag. Cut, with a very sterile pair of scissors, the bacon, in half. Right through the middle. Take the whole water chestnuts from the bowl, and wrap the piece of Morningstar bacon, (it will only go around it, and that's all you need). Stick a toothpick through it,and place it on the prepared tinfoil. Do this will all the water chestnuts. Take a sauce brush, and coat each one, once it is on the cookie sheet, with the sauce. Put the sauce aside. Pop them in the oven, 350 degrees, 1/2 hour. When they are done, remove them from the cookie sheet, and use the 1/3rd sauce you set aside earlier, for more flavor. I took a picture of it, cause I've started a Vegetarian blog, Veg Awsomality. --Rhonda
Guest guest
I have a friend who made an appetizer like this with dates instead of water chestnuts. It was yummy. She just wrapped each date (seedless) with a half slice of vegi bacon and baked it in the oven. No other ingredients. I don't know the exact time. Bj. Grey Woodbridge, Va.
