Adventures with my Vita-Mix

DH now knows I bought a vita-mix. He wasn't happy about it (still thinks it's a

rip off). So, I'm on a mission to show him how awesome it can be. I freeze a lot

of local fruit so I'm doing ice cream and smoothies.

I made peach ice cream (vegan, I used soya milk) but he wasn't home to try. The

boys, my sister, and the nanny loved it. He did get to try the green smoothie I

made with kale and while he didn't rave about it he did like it.

Last night my eldest requested raspberry ice cream. So I used soya milk, frozen

raspberries, organic sugar, and threw in some flax seeds for the omegas. It was

a hit even with my super picky middle child. DH liked it (but he only got a

small taste since I made a small batch and the boys ate it up).

DH will probably never admit he likes the machine (he's just that way). That's

fine. I don't need to gloat or anything.

I'm looking to purchase one this week. I can't do squat with what I have

now.

Where did you end up getting yours from? I've checked on Ebay. They have

some that are refurbished for around $350-375.

New ones from the Vita-Mix are about $535.00 - 575.00.

I've had mine for about a week now and will *never* go back to a department

store blender! the thing is positively *awesome*!!

My guy is taking a little while to get used to green smoothies, but he's

coming around slowly. He's admitting to having an easier time in the

washroom department, and he thinks it might be because of the greens and raw

food. He still thinks the vita mix is overpriced, but now he sort of shrugs

helplessly when anyone asks about it.

hang in!

I got mine from www.rawnutrition.ca. I went for the refurbished model.

they replace the container and the manuals and recipe books. they recheck

the motor, etc and make sure everything is working fine. the refurbished

models are usually from people who get them and decide for whatever reason

they don't want the unit. vita mix has a 30 day in home trial money back

grantee, if I remember correctly. anyway, it's practically like getting a

new machine, but for less money. Ours works great, but cost less. You can

probably find something in the states similar.

When I bought my Total Blender, my husband thought I was nuts. I have had it

well over a year now and he now sees that I eat healthier because of it. He

still hates the noise, but he understands that it helps me stay healthy. The

other day, he noticed that it says it has been used over a 1,000 times and he

had to admit that I was definitely using what I bought. :)

I actually got mine at Costco. The 5200 was $500 and the dry blade container was

$99 (that's Canadian $ so I'm sure the price will be better for you!). I went

into Costco that day with the intention of asking when Vita-Mix would be back

and sure enough...there they were.

I'm really enjoying it. DH wanted blueberry ice cream last night but he like his

ice cream very hard so I'll make some this afternoon (with soya milk) and freeze

it for tonight. I like softer so it's perfect for me right out of the VM.
