Guest guest
I thought i grabbed some nutritional yeast at the store today, but when i came home, i saw that it said brewers yeast...is this the same thing? I've never used nutritional yeast, and have no experience with it, but i see it in veg*n recipes all the time, so i figured it was time to try it out. Hopefully i got the right stuff =) Thanks, ~Kim

I just discovered nutritional yeast this year and, boy!, I never knew what I was missing. It's nothing like brewer's yeast which my mother used to buy and put on our oatmeal and in homebaked breads. No, nutritional yeast is more cheesy and delicious. I keep finding new uses for it all the time. It's a great flavoring to sprinkle on stews or beans or open-faced sandwiches or scrambed eggs (even when the eggs are tofu), or in soups. Sometimes I toast a piece of whole wheat bread, spread it with yogurt mixed with a tablesoon of NY for a quick snack. Try it in the recipes on file for sure, but don't be afraid to use it freely anyplace you think it will taste good. You'll probably be right. Great stuff. I can't believe it's actually good for you. Guest guest
Hi Kim, Taste some If it's yummy and cheesy tasting, it's nutritional yeast. (It doesn't need to be cooked. I sprinkle it on salads all the time.) I think I remember there being a discussion here about stores mislabeling nutritional yeast/brewers yeast fairly often, so hopefully you won't have to exchange it. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Thank you for this! It helps a lot. I always bought nutritional yeast for popcorn, then didn't buy any for awhile. When I went to buy more after a long time I forgot which one I needed and bought Brewers by mistake. We were very disappointed. It wasn't a disaster, but definitely no where as good as the nutritional yeast on popcorn.
