Guest guest
I cook brown basmati rice this way: 1 cup brown basmati rice, rinsed 2 cups water Place rice and water in a covered dish and microwave on high for 5 minutes, then on 50% power for 15 minutes. Allow to sit for 5 minutes. It is always perfect. Make sure your dish is large enough to prevent boil over, at least 1.5 qt.
Guest guest
I, too, use my microwave for cooking rice (two cups of liquid to one cup of rice plus salt and a little butter/margerine) and have never had a failure....perfect rice all the time. I toyed with the idea of getting a rice cooker, but decided that it was just another kitchen gadget to find a place for and that if it wasn't broken it didn't need fixing. Guest guest
A rice cooker is on my wish list for xmas..... I made a recipe in the crockpot yesterday, it was just " OK " , too much rice and I think it was in there too long, the rice was " mushy " (I used long grain, didn't have any brown). It was tasty but too heavy and reminded me why I don't like using rice in crockpots! I think next time I'll just make it on the stove like a stir fry (pink beans, tomatoes, onion, green chilis, diced zucchini etc, a mexican type dish). Then if I have the rice cooker, PERFECT rice to put it on! Jann Donnalilacflower <thelilacflower wrote: > I have never tried rice in the microwave. Guest guest
I've never cooked rice in a microwave. This is fascinating to me. In general the ration when cooking most rices is 2/1. 2 cups liquid to 1 cup rice. I use " unchicken " or herbal broths/pastes to cook rice. I never cook rice in plain water. To those fortunate enough to have Trader Joe's nearby, they stock a brilliant pre-cooked wild rice that can be microwaved in 2.5 minutes. I add " unchicken " broth made from paste, add steamed leftover veggies[usually broccoli/peas/snap peas], do a quick tossed salad, do a microwave veggie burger w/ dijon mustard & cherry heirloom tomatoes, fresh basil, maybe saute some onions or mushrooms with Italian parsley and voila...it's ten minutes of heaven. The whole thing takes 15 minutes, tops, and the cleanup is about 10 minutes.
