Guest guest
I had a roommate that decided to melt the butter for her baking recipe in the pyrex dish in the oven while she was gathering the other ingredients. The dish exploded and I heard her scream. When I ran into the kitchen all she could do was stare at the oven. I didn't see blood, water, or fire, so I didn't know what was going on. I opened the oven to find glass everywhere only in the oven, so I turned the oven off, told her to let it cool and clean it up. She just stood there when I told her eveything was fine since the oven captured it all and to relax. I went back into the living room. She wasn't as experienced of a baker as she led me to believe. Pyrex couldn't handle the cold spot and the hot spots created by the cold butter and the hot oven, so it exploded. She did call Pyrex, who explained it to her, and they replaced the dish, for which I was thankful since it was my dish. She wasn't too apt at cleaning up glass as well, nor patient at letting the stove cool. We all learned a lesson that day!! Guest guest
Dena, Some " Kitchen Disasters " can be funny when no one is hurt. Once I was trying to make caramel icing and was told it was soooo simple - just put a can of Eagle Brand milk in a pan of hot water and bring it to a boil for about twenty minutes- I was a new bride and did not know that the can lid needed to be removed. It too explodedall over the ceiling, light fixture and I was finding small hardened drops of icing in cabinets and drawers for at least a week. By the way - I am loving the recipes and am still so new at this veggie adventure I have not submitted anything yet. Thanks for all the great ideas. Linda on Wadmalaw Island.
