Guest guest
I keep smiling about the dishes conversation, so here is my story. Almost 15 years ago I bought plain white corelle (they stack compactly which is a big plus), enough place settings for 30. I bought dinner, lunch and small dishes, bowls and mugs. I got them all at discount, and over the years I have added a few platters. Everyone comes to my home for holidays and events, and for 15 years I have never purchased a disposable dish or utensil. Graduation parties, showers, receptions, holidays and my every day. Formal dinners, and back yard cookouts. I have had so many guests here that some used dinner, and some lunch size, but it always works and has been a great investment. I have to believe it is better for the environment than using disposable. I also have mismatched stainless for 32. The way I keep it fun is I buy serving dishes at second hand shops, and many are animal, fruit, and vegetable shaped. The stranger the better, so I have a chicken shaped serving dish, a fish shaped sauce boat, a bowl of cabbage leaves, and on it goes. I thought I would become bored with the white, but it makes the food look lovely, so I even bought a white restaurant table cloth. White on white, I change the look with candles, table runners, flowers, greenery, placemats, even ribbons and confetti. No chips, no cracks, and in the 15 years I have dropped several and shattered only one. It is a big mess to clean, but I think watching it bounce most of the time is worth the clean up. Guest guest
Ditto, I use the plain white corelle with assorted serving pieces. But I do like a table clothe to match the season. Also have small white animal napkin rings. Laura in FL Panhandle - bakersgranddaughter Thursday, October 29, 2009 7:39 AM [veg_grp] they work for me...
