Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I have been doing some research on product suitable for vegetarians and am mortified to learn about rennet. I had no idea what it was (I think it was mentioned on this group hence my curiosity) and to me it is almost worse than eating meat. What's that saying - ignorance is bliss. Anyway, in my research I also found that some alcohol is not suitable for vegetarians (including my two favourties lol). I thought others might be interested to know. Guest guest
Hi Diana, Here's what I found out about vegetarian wines: most wines use 'animal products' during the fining " process. Fining is a wine processing stage that uses proteins obtained from animal products to remove unwanted color, haze, bitterness, excessive astringency, off-flavors, unpleasant odors, etc. Usually, the fining agent itself is eliminated before the wine is bottled. Alternatively, vegetarian wines use Bentonite during the fining process instead of any animal products. If you are a strict vegetarian, you should look at the wine's certifications to make sure it is vegetarian. Hope that helps, Penne , diana scott <dianascot_33 wrote: > > Please share which are not suitable and why. Thank you. > Diana >
Guest guest
So one wouldn't be ingesting the fining product. The concern would be for the animals from which the fining product is made. Thank you. Now I have to get out wine bottles and look for certifications. Golly, this being a vegetarian involves lots of label reading. LOL! Guest guest
can you publish you info on what alcohol is not suitale for vegetarians? I knew about rennet, but recently learned that gelatin capsules are made from animal products. I can't remember taking anything in a gelatin capsule since the 1980's when I used an energy product called " guarana " that was recommended to me so I could stay up late when I needed make a deadline. I think it's been banned in the US now. It was very powerful, and you could not eat, so people started taking it to diet.
