Jeanne,

From what I've seen the Western Digital Black Caviar is looking like one of

the best bets, Not absolutely sure as I haven't tried it out yet, but all

the reviews are fairly positive. I wouldn't go for the even newer 1.5 and 2

TB drives as there's a number of questions being asked regarding how stable

and reliable they are.

I know the basics of how they fit the data in, and even that part gives me a

screaming headache trying to understand it fully.

Thanks, Dennis! I had narrowed my choice down between the Caviar and one other

but I've always had good luck with Western Digital's drives and was torn between

the one I knew and one I didn't. Crazy how fast prices go down with these

critters. I paid $74 for an external 250 GB drive for one of the grandson's

Christmas presents just two years ago and now I can get a 1TB drive for that.

Sigh. Remember when power supplies were engineered so chunky and dependable you

could go years without them bagging it? Now I have to keep one in the computer

closet at all times.

Life as a geek isn't easy sometimes. All those juicy toys out there and no bucks

to get them with. Boo hoo!

Hmmm, to make this sort of vegetarian - Newegg.com has a nice rice cooker with

stainless steel rice basket for $39. Smaller capacity, but great for a couple.
