OT: cats and lentils

Matilda, the youngest cat, is inordinately interested in my groceries.

I don't have much cabinet space, so keep things like bread, pasta,

dried beans -- and lentils -- in a basket on the counter. The little

fart opened up a bag of lentils while I was at work yesterday! I know

it was her because the other two don't care about stuff like that.

Apparently, she didn't like them, because she only scattered a few on

the counter and left them. :)

Cat aubse! Here you bring some wonderfully edible lentils into the home and

neglect to cook them for her! Poor Matilda. Sweep them up and sew them into a

lovely little fleece mouse lentil bag for her playtime amusement. Add some

catnip to the lentils and she may forgive you for the oversight in not offering

her cooked lentils.

Thankfully it wasn't a 5 pound bag of rice or worse yet, flour!

I reheated a quart of cooked navy bean soup yesterday and the brats got the lid

off and ate most of the pot before I saw they had the lid off. We humans had to

make do with rice, canned black beans and cornbread. Little monsters.

Oh yeah, and they farted all night long, too. Got any ideas of what two dozen

farting cats can contribute to the air quality of a home? It isn't pretty.

Must go scoop the cat boxes. Jeanne in GA

I know I'm terrible to laugh at your misfortune, but that's hilarious!

Thanks so much for the laugh, Jeanne! Peace, Mo

Jeanne - you must make darn good navy bean soup! :)

Cyndy - " Matilda " just sounds like an onery name, and my cats are all " M " s.

I call her Tilda when she's being especially silly. :)

I didn't know cats liked beans that much!  WHEW!  I have 4 cats and when just

one of them gets " gassy " --man, oh MAN!!!  One of my cats seems to be drawn to

tofu--he has always come up, begging for a taste, whenever I've had a chunk of

it out for cooking.  Now the vet says he can't have it, due to his urinary tract

problems, but his desire for tofu always amazed me--none of my other cats had

the slightest interest in my tofu.

PS: Speaking of lentils...just reading the post got me hungry when I was

thinking (I have a nasty cold today) nothing really sounded good.  Lentils!

They are tasty, FAST and nutritious!  They have a nice, SAVORY aroma when they

cook, too.  (When I cook any legumes that are single, not in a mixed batch, I

love to savor the cooking aroma...It is amazing how each type of legume has it's

own " cooking scent " that is amazingly distinctive!)

Jacqueline said: TWO....DOZEN? !? CATS?!?!! I am a big time animals lover, but

wow!! Do you run a rescue?

Yup, private, no kill cat/dog sanctuary for the past 20 plus years. The eldest

has been with us for 25 years as of this past Halloween. We just lost her last

kitten who was 24 years old.

Darned if they don't like tofu fresh from the fridge, too. I made the mistake of

leaving a block out to thaw and they ate the whole thing.
