Guest guest
As it's soon Christmas I decided to post one of my favourite dishes for the Christmas. It's made of rutabagas (called swedes in England). If you are not used to the taste of rutabagas you could substitute one of the rutabagas with potatoes. I usually add some nutmeg to the mashed rutabagas. /Helga Lanttulaatikko (Rutabaga Casserole) 1-2 large rutabagas (about 1 kg) water, salt 2 Tbs butter or margarine 1 Tbs flour 2 dl milk or half-and-half salt, white pepper 2-3 tablespoons (sugar or) molass 1 egg 1 dl bread crumbs Peal the rutabagas, cut into small cubes and cook in small amount of water seasoned with salt until tender. Mash well. Whip butter or margarine and flour into the rutabagas, add the milk gradually, whipping continuously. Add the egg and season to taste. Place in a greased casserole dish, cover with bread crumbs and bake in a 200°C (400°F) oven for 40 mins.
