LADY SHANTI*

Auspicious lady who's praised at all times

By Sages as Peace; that rare deepest peace,

Imbued with a presence that can transform

An arid desert, into an ocean

Of ambrosial nectarine bliss.

Enjoy the perfect felicity,

Of this most delightfully divine lady,

By keeping perfectly quiet and still.

Then may you who've married blessed Shanti,

Who's Bhagavan's jewel bedecked daughter,

Happily flourish in supreme enjoyment.

To attain Peace, unite with her presence,

This majestic queen amongst great women,

Faithfully respecting and regarding her

As your dearest constant companion,

Enjoying in your Heart her tight embrace,

Becoming oblivious of all else.

That which Sages honour and praise as grace

Is nothing other than the paramount bliss

Of radiant beauteous Lady Shanti.

She's tranquil and calm, of comely form,

Worthy of reverence and captivating.

Offer yourself to that noble queen,

An ocean of auspicious qualities.

If you have the good fortune to wed

That Fair One, your life will be enriched,

As if you've discovered buried treasure.

Realised beings all revere and praise her,

Keeping their attention on her lotus feet,

Waiting to be called to her service.

Whoever's the target of her glance of grace,

Will experience immeasurable bliss;

Under her reign you will attain great glory.

She's a gentle young lady whose comely form

Is the perfectly distilled bliss of Brahman.

Those who dwell in the presence of this Lady,

Won't care to look at the realms of the gods.

For those who've come into possession

Of this distinguished way of living

With that Lady Shanti; the life of living

With other charming, decorated women

Will appear to be utterly abhorrent!

*A free versification of Lady Shanti (P.198-9) in

Muruganar's Padamalia

Teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi.
