THE PARABLE OF THE FRUIT

There was once a beautiful tree in the centre of the world garden, which

gave forth a luscious, delicious and sweet fruit, such as you have never

tasted before, or could ever wish for. It bestowed peace of mind on all

who ate it.

But to reach this perennial fruit, you had to climb the tree, which was

difficult and arduous.

But one day a clever man told all the people eager to enjoy this fruit,

but were too lazy to climb the tree, the most wonderful description of its

joys and pleasures. The people were delighted, and said “this is

wonderful, there’s no need to climb the tree anymore - we’ll come once in

a while and listen to you talk about it, whenever we're restless”.

The story teller, being somewhat shrewd, started to charge money for his

entertainment and to listen to his description of the luscious fruit. He

made a good living and the foolish folk were satisfied.

But one, somewhat mature young man, doubted the story teller, and

determined to climb the tree and find out for himself. After a difficult

and hard struggle he succeeded and brought down a piece of the magic fruit

to eat. It’s taste was so blissfully delicious that it was beyond all

description, and the young man, transformed by its power, was able to tell

people that the only way, to know the wonder of this fruit was to climb

the tree and find out for himself, and gain perpetual peace of mind.

The wise ones followed his advice and made the effort, but the foolish

lazy one’s went on paying their hard earned wages to listen to the clever

story-teller talk.
