Guest guest
Dearest Alan, Your wise words provide much comfort. You are a good and loving soul. I do like your Rumi postings. What is " versification? " Does that mean you take Rumi's translated prose and make a poem of it? Love, Harsha On Behalf Of alan jacobs Sunday, May 18, 2008 2:22 PM Re: Bhagavan Devotees/Sangha Members My dear Harsha, Pleade don't be disturbed by any celestial policemen who have puritanical views on what is permited or not permited on a Ramana Maharshi list. As the list is not too strictly moderated it allows a freedom of expression, with out fear of being shot down by some self styled pandit. Ramana allowed great freedom to his devotees, and spoke to them from where they were. He even told one humble villager he should worship idols, and was criticised by some devotees for this statement. but Ramana was emphatic that by encouragiung his idol worship, this devotee would eventually find devotion and be led on. This group accomodates beginners as well as advanced devotees so people who need some clarification can be helped from experience rather than theory. That freedom allows for creativity, humour, debate, poetry, prose and dissagreement. Why not? There are groups where restrictions inhibit more diffident devotees from coming forward. so carry on Harsha, we love and trust you, and your popularity with over 11oo members speaks for itself. I for one know you are a sincere Ramana Bhakta and Sadhak, I can tell by your postings. If I thought for one minute you were not, I wouldn't be here. We have nothing to fear providing we practice Self Enquiry earnestly, and surrender to the great power of our own ever gracious and loving Self. Guest guest
Dear Harsha, Yes a versification is to take a prose text and transcibe it poeticly. Rumi's complete Mathnawi is translated by Reynard Nicholson, but it is a literal prose translation. Poetry brings back the Rasa (beauty). All Hindu scriptures are poetic, including the Gita, the Vedas, Upanishads etc. as are Bhagavan's writings such as the 40 verses, the 30 verses, the 40 Verses Supplement and Hymns to Arunachala. Unfortunately we lose a great deal in prosaic translations. Thanks for the enquiry, Best wishes and warm regards, Alan --- On Mon, 19/5/08, Harsha wrote: Harsha Alan/ Re: Bhagavan Devotees/Sangha Members Monday, 19 May, 2008, 12:42 PM Dearest Alan, Your wise words provide much comfort.
