THE CRUEL CHARMER

I'm that penitent supplicant who prays to you,

The pain suffered by a charmer like you has for me

A thousand ravishing magical enchantments.

You're the Sun of my sight, these eyes shine with your beauty,

If I look away from You, to whom else shall I turn?

I'll not become unfaithful because of your cruel treatment.

By staying constant I'll restrain you from severity;

I complained and you said " provide your own solution " ,

I'm one whose heart provides a cure for harsh affliction.

I'll not pour out my grief because it would bore you,

I'll end this poem ,with gratitude, as my suffering has been hard.

From some versification of Rumi's Mathnawi by Alan
