The friends asked “ why did you call them both truth tellers When theyre not the same? He said “ I’m a mirror, polished By God’s hand. Turk and Greek, both see in me, what’s hidden In themselves. Oh wife, if you view me as covetous Rise above feminine fascination for worldly things. This state of mine looks like ‘desire’ but in truth its a blessing. When mercy abounds , where’s the lust for worldly goods ? Try poverty for a while and you’ll find its double richness, Have patience, abandon your disgust; in spiritul poverty Shines the everlasting light of God’s great glory. Don’t sell vinegar and you’ll see thousands of souls Drowned with contentment in an ocean of honey . There are millions, bitterly suffering, pickled in brine. Know that, then my heart’s unfolding would inform your soul.†This discourse is milk from the breasts of my heart ; To flow well,the teat needs a babe to suck its virtue. When the listener is feeling hungry and attentive, The preacher becomes the silver tongue of eloquence. A stranger enters my house and the harem hides, If a harmless cousin enters they reveal their beauty. Why should melody and harmony be made for deaf ears? God did’nt invent the fragrance of musk for blocked noses, The base materialist is an enemy of what is truly high, The seeker after Truth is known by his auspicious deeds.
