Guest guest
Dear friends, I see from the site that the attachment does not open- so here it is. Love to all, Alan FROM THE BURNING BUSH Sage Moses, desert wandering, saw a fearsome fire, A bush of prickly gorse crackled and hissed with ire, It was being devoured by sheets of white hot flame, When out of that effulgence, there spoke the Holy Name! Fearless Moses enquired, as it was his right to do, “Mystic voice speaking from the fire, tell me, who are you?†A loud reply thundered, hearken son, â€I AM THAT I AM!â€* Such was the revelation, uttered by the Holy Name. King David composed a psalm for his lyric harp to play, On one inspired and most auspicious summer day; He raised his voice and sang “Commune with your own heart Upon your bed and be still.†Such wisdom he did impart, Which when conjoined with the sacred words, ‘I AM THAT I AM’, Is the great truth that Bhagavan Ramana did once explain.* “You duty is to be, and not be this or that. ‘I AM THAT I AM’ sums up the truth; The method is summarised in ‘BE STILL’. So the Sages of the Bible and Advaita meet, Let us pause and pay reverence to their holy feet. *Padamalia 26 P. 193 and Day by Day with Bhagavan 11th Jan 1946 and Psalm 4 v 5, and Exodus III v14. Guest guest
Dear Michael, I am so glad you enjoyed this poem. I feel this connection means a great deal to those Devotees brought up in the Jewish Tradition , it strengthens our faith. I was reading Philo of Alexandria the third century Jewish Gnostic, and commentator on the Torah recently. He says quite clearly that Moses, to use his own words 'worshiped the Self Existent'. This statement along with David's three mentions of 'Stillness' in the Psalms strengthens my view that there was a Knowledge in Biblical times akin to Advaita. Bhagavan used to quote the sentence in Ecclesiastes 'that the fool's heart is on the left, the wise man's heart on the right' as evidence of his own assertion that the spiritual heart was on the right side of the chest, and 'there is one alone there is no second.
