Are you indiariaz?

This from the page is paraphrasing Sri Ramana, isn't it ?

Why not quote his own sayings ?

I found the same .. than a link to his 40 verses:

indiariaz says:

Sri Ramana Maharshi

Happiness is your nature.

It is not wrong to desire it.

What is wrong is seeking it outside

when it is inside.

Nearly all mankind is more or less unhappy

because nearly all do not know the true Self.

Real happiness abides in Self-knowledge alone.

All else is fleeting.

To know one's Self

is to be blissful always.

....Bliss is not something to be got.

On the other hand you are always Bliss.

This desire [for Bliss] is born of the sense of incompleteness.

To whom is this sense of incompleteness?

Enquire. In deep sleep you were blissful.

Now you are not so.

What has interposed between that Bliss and this non-bliss?

It is the ego.

Seek its source and find you are Bliss.

Wanting to reform the world without discovering one's true self is

like trying to cover the world with leather to avoid the pain of

walking on stones and thorns. It is much simpler to wear shoes.

Dear Era,

I quite agree with you. The first four quotes don't sound right.I have never

heard of Samuel Weiser publishing an edition of the Collected Works. As far as I

know only Ryder (Arthur Osborne's Publisher-the first Edition) and Ramanasramam,

(A revised Edition) have published them. But Weiser do publish reprints, so it

may be possible.

This is not the main point, however. The four suspect quotes seem to have come

from a book called 'Happiness and God's Grace', by Ramana Maharshi. I have never

heard of this book either. Has anyone else? The rest of the quotes seem sound ,

as far as I can tell.

All love,

As ever,

Alan

Dear Era,

The 3rd quote referenced as "Happiness and Gods Grace" can be found in "Talks":

M.: Bliss is not something to be got. On the other hand you are always Bliss. This desire is born of the sense of incompleteness. To whom is this sense of incompleteness? Enquire. In deep sleep you were blissful: Now you are not so. What has interposed between that Bliss and this non-bliss? It is the ego. Seek its source and find you are Bliss. (Talks 106)

I can't find any evidence that "Happiness and God's Grace" is a book by Ramana Maharshi - that does not mean it wasn't at some stage. However, it might just have been a web page of quotes created by someone and given that name.

Among the four quotes attributed to "Collected Works" only the following quote can be found therein as part of Vivekachudamani.

"'That inner Self, as the primeval Spirit, Eternal, ever effulgent, full and infinite Bliss, Single, indivisible, whole and living, Shines in everyone as the witnessing awareness. That self in its splendour, shining in the cavity of the heart This self is neither born nor dies, Neither grows nor decays, Nor does it suffer any change. When a pot is broken, the space within it is not, And similarly, when the body dies the Self in it remains eternal."

(page 226, Collected Works)

Best wishes,

Peter
