Guest guest
Dear friends, Sri Ganesan has sent me a brief synopsis of a Talk he gave to Heart of Human Kindness Foundation USA. He has given me permission to share it with the group. Best wishes to all, Alan " Nature of 'Truth' " Bhagavan Ramana's guidance to us in grasping the 'nature' of TRUTH is very valuable, indeed : " TRUTH should be available to all, at all times and under all conditions. IT should be simple, direct and natural. " > > One should apply all the six principles in one's daily > activities and discern for oneself what exactly TRUTH is. The speaker's derivation landed him in 'experiencing' the Truth as one's own true nature of " I AM " . No other branches of phenomena in the physical and mental realm could survive the test of those six demanding principles ! > Instead of analysing anything else, let us take up the God-given principles of 'Nature'. What are the God-given principles ? > 'One's body, one's mind and the World' . These three principles appear when one is awake and disappear when one is deeply asleep --this is not a theory or concept, but everyone's daily experience ! > > 'NATURE' is that 'which is' -- that which exists, apparently with two > divisions = 'subjective nature' and 'objective nature'. That which > perceives is the subjective nature and that which is perceived is the > objective nature. > Nature as the 'World' is the objective nature -- the " seen " . One who > perceives the World is the subjective nature -- the " seer " . > > Nature is always changing, yet remains eternally the same, as well ! > Like a 'river' ! Thus, there are two elements = the 'chalana' aspect and the 'achala' aspect ['chalana' = movement; 'achala' = non-movement]. > The creation is always in a flux, that is 'in movement' and it is made of > the five elements [earth, fire, water, air and ether] . All the 'seen' > are always changing ! The 'seer' is ever the changeless ! Observe this.... > > To be specific -- the 'changes' denote a process of 'evolution' and all > forms of 'seen-evolution' submerges in the 'seer'. Such mergence > we may call as 'involution'. For example, a mighty tree grows and > dies; yet, its seeds spring up as tree again ! This process of 'evolution' and 'involution' goes on, endlessly. This is the > nature of 'Nature' ! > > Why ? Where exactly does all these begin ? And, where do > they end ? > > Outwardly, scientifically, all these questions ever remain > unanswered. But, inwardly, spiritually each one of us hold the correct > answer in oneself. Thus, the sole importance to solve this riddle > lies squarely in 'oneself' ! Therefore, the scriptures say : " What all is contained in the 'macrocosm' is contained in the 'microcosm', as well " . Thus, focusing one's attention within, assumes enormous importance, indeed ! > > What does it mean ? To what one should focus attention ? > The answer is very simple and direct -- pay attention to the waking > and sleep states. They happen to everyone, every day. The drama of > 'evolution' [when one wakes up in the morning, the whole panorama of the 'World' appears] and 'involution' [the submergence of all that is'seen' in one's deep sleep] takes place daily, to everyone too. > > The root of Nature -- objective nature and subjective nature -- depends, > thus, on one's own 'Awareness'. Awareness is the ground on which the > waking and sleep states come and go. Bhagavan Ramana calls > this Pure Awareness as 'SELF' or the 'HEART' ! > If one steps out of all these variations of differring states and holds on to the 'Awareness per se' , the Reality of, the Truth of 'Nature' is fully revealed. Such revelation takes place in 'Silence' ! In this Silence one realises, one experiences that Nature is simply 'Ananda' -- eternal joy ! > > Joy, Love pervades everywhere as Nature. That very Nature > is 'You' as " I AM " ! When one turns within, one finds one is > saturated with the very Nature which pervades all around outside ! > Hence the instruction : " Turn within " , " Dive inwards " ! > > What is the importance ? Why is one always instructed to > turn within ? The 'macrocosm' which is outside oneself has never > been discerned nor discernible due its vastness and magnitude in volume. > Scientists are still making valiant efforts, no doubt ! Yet, the > 'microcosm' , which is an exact replica of the 'macrocosm', is > always discernible since it is within oneself. And, great sages and messiahs have already discerned it, so very thoroughly as well - through > the ages ! ? " > Sri Bhagavan said " The Science of the SELF is superior to all the > sciences ! " >> What is that 'Science of the SELF' ? > To know oneself as one really IS, denuded of all that is > artificial, impermanent and unreal, is possible; and, it is a perfect > science. It is a 'total', 'complete' science because it alone > of all other sciences, goes into the nature of the very one > who comprehends all the other outward sciences. > > To discover the truth about oneself, Sri Bhagavan said, > one has to delve within and seek the source of all > one's activities. If the Truth is not within oneself, he said, > then the Truth definitely cannot be found outside. To drive home > this vital point, Bhagavan Ramana never indulged in jargon > or polemics; he referred to one's own daily experiences. > No one says, 'I do not exist' , nor, 'I do not know what is > sleep, dream, hunger or thirst' . By drawning one's attention > to such common experiences, he made one realise that > one is nothing but the Truth. > > > By the powerful quest of " Who Am I ? " , one realises that > one is the screen on which the film of actions and experiences > come and go. The pictures in the movie have a beginning > and an end, but the screen on which they are projected > ever remains unchanged. The feeling of 'I' is common in > everyone's experience. > > Sri Bhagavan helps us through " Who Am I ? " - enquiry > to hold on to the 'I', transcending all the differing states of > experiences. He said that to remain as the unchanging 'I' > at all times, under all conditions, is to be the Truth. > Truth is, thus, one's own being. To be is to be the Truth. > > " If one enquires as to who one is and what one is, and > finds out the Truth as one's own being, " he said. > To discover and remain as the Truth, all the time, is > the essence of the 'Science of Self-Knowledge'. > > When a devotee once put a question to the Maharshi > as to what he should do to master this science, > Sri Bhagavan with a benign smile, answered : > " Be as you ARE " ! > > > --\ ----- > > > Love, > Ganesan.
