Guest guest
I had the chance to listen to an audio file of a discourse on Sri Ramana in Tamil. It contained a number of one liners in Tamil, which I found interesting. I have given my notes below with my English translation in brackets for some of those one liners. ----------------- Discourse on Ramana Maharishi - Nocchur Venkatrama Sastrigal Mind is affected by raaga and dvesha. Hence it has aakarshanam & vikarshanam (attraction & repulsion). Mind's aakarshanam may change to dis-like after sometime. Saint's influence is called Sankarshanam - not aakarshanam or vikarshanam. Because, it transcends the mind. Peetadhipathees are forced to accept pada poojai. No pada poojai was accepted by Ramana in his lifetime. In the process of decorating the deity etc., we forget that our need is to go inside. Nobody was doing anything (chanting, singing, worshipping etc.) at Ramanasramam. We start worshipping the Guru's form. Guru says I am not the body. But, we make him a-thathvam, while he stresses Thathvam. Guru needs to show the state, not just give statement. Ramana's swadharma - behave like a jeevan muktha. Irundhadhai irundha padi irundhu kaattu - the only purpose for Ramana. (Be the Brahman that you are) His was the rediscovery of the lost method in divine awareness. He never answered the question. He always answered the questioner. Society keeps talking about the body - how is your diabetes, BP etc. etc. Due to lack of shraddha, we stay with just asking questions. Maya thathvam - pulls you towards the world. Opposite of Guru thathvam. Jada sakthi Vs Chit sakthi Udambe illaama irukkalaame? (You could be body-less) Ramana told Kavya Kanda Ganapathy, who was boasting about his having reduced his food intake. . Brahmam is a 'sareeram illaada vasthu'. (Brahman is matter-less) There is no dukkam in our swaroopam. There is sokham. But I do not have any sokham. Anda Brahmanai nilaiyil irutthal is the only sadanai needed. Idhai (anda Brahmanai) vilakkuvadharku innoru vilakku vendiyathillai. (Need only to be in the true state. That state is self luminous) Were there any problems in deep sleep? When the manam starts, problems start. Wake up from the dream is the solution. Utthishtatha, Jaagratha. (Wake up & be vigilant) We need a strong desire to wake up. Fishes think that the moon's reflection means that it is also another object in the water. Similarly, the Gopis were treating Krishna as just one other person. Ippo edhu irukko, adhu eppovum unakku irukku. Ippo edhu illayo, adhu eppovaavathu vandhaal, adhu poy vidum. There is nothing new to be acquired. Naan irukkaen inghira unarvu gavanatthil kondu vara vendum. (Bring to attention the feeling of 'I am'). Naan engira unarvu roopam (the I am) - that is Brahman. It can be an immediate experience. No one has any doubt about 'naan irukkaen' (I am). There is no need to have a light for illuminating that unarvu (sense). The feeling of the un-changing 'naan irukkaen' is a wonder. Mukthi is effortless. It is natural. All need for becoming should go. Ramana got the jnanam before doing any sadhanai. Ramana was not showing any interest in routine life events. Jeevan mukthar is not a property or heritage of Sankara Madam. All religions have jeevan mukthas. Giri valam is not a substitute for athma vicharam. But, we stop with giri valam. Easy to get lost or attached to vasthu's. Marana anubhavam is itself a great upadesam. Investigation of 'maranam' leads to the 'no maranam' state (Maranam illaa thanmai). (Marana anubhavam = death experience, leads to death less state) Look for the source for naan. Where the breath starts. We are always pretending to be something else. The sadhaka realises that he (mind) is not naan. All thoughts start from the I-thought. In fact, the I-thought only causes all thoughts - anger etc. Aham is the condensed form of the mind. 'Aham is false' is a statement. But, it should become the state. Naan udhiyaadhu ulla nilai, naan adhuvaagha ulla nilai. (Brahman state is the 'no ego' state) Than izhappu is needed. (Need to lose the ego state) Even the one that says 'I do not want' should be absent. 'Un ishtam = en ishtam' (Your wish is my wish) should be the attitude. Give the possessor & not just your possessions. Agandhai (ego) is nothing but image making. Naan irandhu, thaan pirakka vendum. Thaan shines after swallowing the naan. In the final stage, the body will pain. But, naan will not weep. There is a reason for where you are. Nothing happens without a reason. Naan illaadha nilai (surrender) = Bhakti (athma nivedanam) Naan ellaamaaha irukkum nilai (state of infinitude) = jnana (athma dharshanam) ----------------
