Guest guest
Dear friends, Some further reflections: The term 'ego' is an umbrella word - it can also be equated with 'mind' and contains the whole bundle of thoughts, memory, tendencies etc. For the child and adult until 'maturity', by which I mean when the process of Self Enquiry and Surrender commences, and the dimunition of the ego starts, it is necesary to live by It, as it contains all our conditioned responses to what happens, or is found necessary for everyday living. The teaching is aimed at reaching the 'no mind or egoless state' which is Self Realisation or Enlightenment. Then the ego is like the Moon at mid-day, powerless in the face of the Sun of Jnana. The Jnani lives without the need of an ego anymore. Meanwhile as Ramakrishna said 'make the ego a good servant rather than the master'. It is the ego which commences Self Enquiry, the search for its own source when its most intelligent part realises the necessity of awakening. Guest guest
Dear Friends in the Sangha, I looked at the thread on ego. Do we perceive an ego in us? If so, to not mind the ego is the way. To not mind the mind is the way. No need to add the extra layer of judgment on yourself. The highest stage is called the " natural state " . The Sahaj state. Sahaj means, easy and natural. There is a season to struggle and make the effort. Then there is a season of surrender and acceptance. It depends on one's destiny, perhaps. What so ever is, is. Including various perceptions and ego and so on. I have briefly described the difference between paths of yoga, meditation, and advaita. Please feel free to pass the link on to interested parties. self-shakti-heart-and-enlightenment-in-advaita Namaste and love to all Yours in Bhagavan Harsha On Behalf Of Alan Jacobs Monday, October 27, 2008 7:40 PM Harshasatsangh Ego, some further reflections.
