The ego is an umbrella word. Under its shelter there exist the following

synonyms and adjuncts.

I Thought

I am the Body Idea

I conceit

False sense of me and mine

Inherited and aquired vasanas or tendencies from this and previous lives

Mind

Sense of Individuality

Cause of split mindedness between subject and object

Cause of Reflected Consciousness

petty selfcenteredness

pride

arrogance

pomposity

selfishness

acquisitiveness

Incessant desire for pleasure

ignorance

nescience

the cardinal sin

the cause of suffering, fear and anxiety

etc. etc. please add more if you are so inclined.

Now we know its nature we see how very necessary it is to remove this demonic,

diabolic, devilry, in one fell swoop, by the only infallible means of Self

Enquiry, and Surrender of this 'Egotism' to the Immortal Self of Sat Chit

Ananda.

Namaste Alan and friends,

From here, 'ego' is just a word

that i've been told means something..

Here,

there are thoughts that arise and pass,

emotions, sensations, that arise and pass,

there is a body,....

when someone calls 'Soul'

the head turns to look...

But it is all seen

to be not who I am...

So, honestly,here

there's no need to use the word " ego " ,

it doesn't really exist,

or it seems to complicate things.

It's all simple really...

Thoughts, sensations, emotions, body,

appear and disappear,

in This which I am,

which is always here.

Blessings and love to all,

Soul

Hello

There is a small booklet with the title "Atma Nirvrit" by tha late Sage Krishna Menon (Atmananda) -a contemporary to Sri Ramana Maharshi.

It is the mind that has thoughts and feelings, not I. Birth, growth, decay and death pertain to the body and not to Me.

I am no body -I have no body. I am no mind -I have no mind. I am no doer, I am no enjoyer, I am pure consc iousness which knows no dissolution.

That which shines just before and just after every thought and feeling is the "I". That is objectless consciousness that is Atma.

It is that Atma again that shines as bliss in deep sleep and when a desired object is attained.

The world shines because of My light: without Me nothing is. I am the light in the perception of the world.

Atma: Means the Real Self.
