Guest guest
From GURU VACHAKA KOVAI Verse 532 From Muruganar's Guru Vachaka Kovai ( The Garland of Guru's Sayings) No. 532. These are utterances of Sri Bhagavan recorded by the great Tamil Poet and Jnani, Sri Muruganar. Translation is by David Godman and Robert Butler in Padamalai on P.353 Is it possible to appease ones hunger by eating food cooked by a painted picture of a blazing fire? Likewise, an end to the miseries of life and the enjoyment of the bliss of the Self cannot be achieved by mere verbal knowledge but only by the experiential knowledge of the Self, which is obtained by extinguishing the ego in the heart. Thus you should know. Comment: The means are persistent Self Enquiry as advocated by Sri Bhagavan in his Essays 'Who Am I' and 'Self Enquiry'. (Collected Works of Ramana Maharshi) along with the devotional path of surrendering the recalcitrant ego to the Immortal Self in the Heart.
