From the Garland of Guru's Sayings-Prof. Swaminathan's translation

The Quest

P.30

21. Strength of Vasanas

155

Flung back by Vasanas*, naughty boys,

Into samsara's eddying stream,

Some creatures suffer, alas, unable

To stand firm on the bank, the Self.

*Vasanas are impure latent tendencies acquired either in previous lives or this

life, which thickly veil the Self and can only be removed by Self Enquiry and

Surrender. AJ

The Guru Vachaka Kovai [Garland of Guru's sayings]are the utterances of Bhagavan

recorded by Sri Murunagar. There are several different translations. This one,

by Prof. Swaminathan, has been translated into free verse, as Sri Muruganar's

Tamil rendering was poetic.

The book is available from Ramanasramam
