Guest guest
From the Garland of Guru's Sayings - Prof. Swaminathan's translation 52. THE TRUE GURU P.53 V. 271 The guru who tells his disciple " Do this or that " becomes for him Yama, Lord of Death or Brahma, Lord of birth. He who declares " you have done enough " is the true guru Bringing grace divine. [the true Guru prescribes no discipline, but the enquiry 'Who Am I?'] Prof. Swaminathan's note. Bhagavan made suggestions in answer to questions but never told devotees what to do directly. Telling devotees what they must do casts a shadow between them and the inner Guru within, the Self. AJ The Garland of Guru's Sayings or Guru Vachaka Kovai is by Sri Muruganar, who before and after his Self Realisation, through Sri Bhagavan's Grace, recorded Sri Ramana's utterances and set them into Tamil verse. This poetic translation by Prof. Swaminathan is in free verse form, and is published by Ramanasramam.

A master basically shares his being where as teacher shares his philosophy only.
Guest guest
How very true .. especially in these days of Modern Gurus who have commercialised their brand of " spirituality " and charge by the hour , much like the psychiatrists of the U.S ! Masters like Ramana Maharishi never " taught " in the conventional sense. They simply shared their ocean of knowledge out of compassion to fellow beings ! They never expected anything in return .. The door was always open .. people used to come , people used to go .. They continued to be ever in the state of Bliss !!
