The Body and the Mind

Body's needs are legitimate

It is the Mind that is greedy.

Body language is always honest

Language of the Mind not always so.

Body rests when the need arises,

Mind is always restless.

Body is naturally healthy ,

Mind causes sickness.

Body is capable of self healing ,

Mind's disbelief spoils it.

Body is like a well oiled machine,

Mind abuses it.

Body never wants to over indulge,

It is the Mind that is corrupt.

Body is the Temple of the Soul ,

Mind is the " Illusion".

In the state of " No-Mind " ,

Body is weightless!!

The greatest wisdom of the Body is that it

Is concerned only with the present moment.

It is the monkey Mind which jumps

In between the past and the future !!

Love

HAVE A GREAT WEEK END !

Dear Sri Dr. Raju,

WE have to discriminate between the different definitions of mind. Sometimes mind is used, by Sri Bhagavan as a synonym for the ego and has to be surrendered. I think this what Ramesh's poem refers to.

But there is a part of the mind, containing intellectual descrimination and reason, which are nescessary adjuncts for living correctly in samsara and the pursuit of sadana. So mind is a friend as well as an enemy. I have written an article on this dilemna called Paradox of Mind published on Luthar.com

All warm regards,

In Him,

Dear Alan, i completely agree with your observations on this matter.

I still feel that in the very awareness of the so called enemy

part of the mind i.eego, there is the solution for it,so i feel that instead

of condemning that negative part of the mind which may result in

counter productive response better to be just watchful of it without

complicating the matters further.Watchfulness is of the self and

trying to correct " what is " is the work of thought which always

complicates spiritual journey.

Dear Sirs ,

I think the point raised by Raju garu has been very nicely closed by Alan.. I have a tendency to club the Mind and the Ego , the way Buddhists do .. To shatter the Ego is to shatter the present state of mind as it exists .. Ofcourse in its pure pristine state it becomes " Supra Mind " as Aurobindo as described..Until then we continue to wage a war against it in the most non-violent manner possible .. by endevouring to become Aware of the Mind rather than yiedling to its whims and fancies... ofcourse as long as we are in the realm of words , sometimes we mean some thing but end up conveying some other thing . If that has happened , may I be kindly excused ..

I am,

Self identity

Is a donkey.

Mind, name, form, feelings

Emotions, cravings, hopes and fears

All included… merely an ass.

We all are donkeys, whether considered most intelligent

And revered as such

Or regarded as the dumbest of the dumb…

No different from plain asses –

Likewise subject to birth, decay and death.

But the remember, friend,

Lucky seeker after truth,

That the master, all pervading nameless self

Is boundless and beyond time.

Peerless ghost rider

Directing and guiding all donkeys,

The herd owner and sustainer

Birth-less and deathless reality.

There is no other. So

Wake up from dreams of selfhood, oh fortunate!

Friend of bright prospects,

Of the dead donkey –

While there is time.
