It is done with the implicit permission of the list moderators. I have been part of the Advaitin list for over 10 years and have engaged in many discussions there. Here at HS also, when someone is a member and has been here for some time, we do not mind their promoting their blog or site. However, we do not encourage people joining and then immediately starting their promotion. It does not seem classy. Hope that answers your question.
