Guest guest
Hello all It is said that the true guru is within & I've often wondered what it would be like to sit at the feet of one such as The Silent one. Is it true that some people can be healed of physical illnesses in this way, by a simple look from a master? And where can I find info on how animals can be self-realised? Thank you peace
Guest guest
Dear Friend: I don't know the answers to your questions. The Silent One is the Self. That is your own presence. As far as being in the presence of a living Guru is concerned, Sri Ramana taught that the Gurus is ever-living, and eternal. Sri Ramana specifically said that it was not the physical contact with the sage but the mental contact with the sage. When someone asked Sri Ramana how this person could find his Guru, Sri Ramana replied, " by intense meditation. " As far as animals being realized, the cow Lakshmi attained moksha at the end of her life through the grace of Sri Ramana. Guest guest
Hello Yes but where can I find info on 'HOW' the cow attained moksha? & yes of course the contact was mental, but isn't every physical thing mental(mind) energy? & so you must agree then that this mental contact, in turn, would effect the bodies of those in close proximtiy. I understand that the true guru is ever living, but I am wanting to know if people have had certain experiences whilst in his close countenance. , " Harsha " wrote: > > Dear Friend: > > I don't know the answers to your questions. Guest guest
Yes, the reference is to mental distance. If mental distance is close, physical distance does not matter. One can be in proximity of a great soul but if the mind is not in tune with the sage, it is not the same. You can read about the cow Lakshmi in the books about Sri Ramana. Is that what you want to know? Books about Bhagavan? Guest guest
Dear Max, Some people were cured by the sannidhi or presence of the Guru. But Bhagavan said there should be no sankalpa or will on the part of the Guru, but the Grace might happen in his proximity occaisionaly. In the very fine book Padamalai you will find reference to this power of the Guru. It is very rare for animals to be Self Realised, but Bhagavan said it was possible. In Lakshmi's case he brought her to videha mukti at the point of death by holding her in a certain way.It is generally accepted by Devotees that Lakshmi was a reincarnated soul brought to Bhagavan through her devotion in a previous life. There is a book on Bhagavan and Animals available from Ramanasramam. Guest guest
I'm not sure your statement on mental distance makes sense, because really there is no distance. Guest guest
Hey Alan, I will track down these books & go into them. I agree that there should be no will on the part of the guru & liken this to the biblical story of the touching of the hem of Jesus when he said the woman was cured by 'her' faith alone & not by any effort from him. Guest guest
Yes, there is no distance at all. Sri Ramana used to say that mental contact with the Guru is best. Yes, by thinking of Sri Ramana, reading about the sage of Arunachala, reading his dialogs, and letting the teachings seep in, you are in tune with him. Guest guest
Dear Max You need not worry about plant and fish and their realization. There is no end to the curiosity of the mind, which is itself a phantom. Sri Ramana used to say that the appearance of the " other " depends on the arising of the " I " . Bhagavan's teaching emphasizes Self-Inquiry. Who am " I " ? That is the central question. If you are realized, all is realized. Eventually, the focus must be drawn inward to its source.
