D.: How is the mind to be stilled?

M.: Looking at the mind with the mind, or fixing the mind in the Self,

brings the mind under control of the Self.

D.: Is there any yoga, i.e., a process for it?

M.: Vichara (investigation) alone will do.

(Talks with Sri Ramana Maharshi: Talk 394.)

Dear Peter and everyone:

The following excerpt from The " Talks " reminds us how simple, beautiful, and

eloquent the practical teaching of Bhagavan is.

I know there are many wonderful commentator and commentaries but the

original is what I grew up with. There is substitute for that.

Love to all

:-). I meant to say, there is no substitute for Bhagavan's original

teaching. Sorry for the typo.

The modes of mind take shape as external objects and the light reflected on

the modes illumines the objects. Now neglecting the modes of mind, look for

the light illumining them. The undulating mind (i.e., the mind associated

with rajas = activity and tamas = darkness) is commonly known as the mind.

Devoid of rajas and tamas, it is pure and selfshining. This is

Self-Realisation. Therefore the mind is said to be the means for it.
