From Blossoms

By Li-Young Lee(1957 - )

From blossoms comesthis brown paper bag of peacheswe bought from the boy at the bend in the road where we turned toward signs painted Peaches. From laden boughs, from hands, from sweet fellowship in the bins, comes nectar at the roadside, succulentpeaches we devour, dusty skin and all, comes the familiar dust of summer, dust we eat.O, to take what we love inside, to carry within us an orchard, to eatnot only the skin, but the shade, not only the sugar, but the days, to holdthe fruit in our hands, adore it, then bite into the round jubilance of peach. There are days we live as if death were nowherein the background; from joy to joy to joy, from wing to wing, from blossom to blossom to impossible blossom, to sweet impossible blossom.

Hi Alan -The slow, circling dance of the year... and this weekend is the summer solstice, the day we catch the sun's most brilliant smile.A day of light. A day of fullness. A day of ripeness... and of sweet peaches still dusty from the orchard.Have a beautiful weekend!Ivan(Trying to type this note out with one hand, while my canine friend insists I pet him with my other hand. His contribution to the poem email today....)

Donations to the Poetry ChaikhanaA sincere thank you to everyone who donated to the Poetry Chaikhana this past week:- Drumming the Soul Awake (MN), Farid (TX), Carol (OH), Jessica (BC)Thank you also to everyone who contributes monthly through a voluntary paid subscription. New rs this week:- Sara (CA), IsabelI am so grateful for each and every contribution. Your support makes a big difference in maintaining the Poetry Chaikhana.---A few reasons to consider making a donation of your own...

Ivan maintains the Poetry Chaikhana in his free time, usually in the mornings before work. Your donation allows him to trim back his work hours and dedicate more time to the Poetry Chaikhana and your emails.

The Poetry Chaikhana has visitors from more than 200 countries! Your support helps to quietly carry a message of unity, respect, and spiritual exploration to all parts of the world.

Email list cleanup. Two-thirds of the email signups each day are really spam. Ivan spends a considerable amount of time each week sifting through the false signups.

The brief 'Thought for the Day' says just the right thing some days.

Donating feels good!
