From the Garland of Guru's Sayings WHO Translation

Verse 228. The state of Liberation may be described as eternal sleep without any

waking, or as eternal waking uninterrupted by sleep. (3)

(3) The Transcendental State, called Mukti, is strictly the only real waking;

but, from the point of view of the ignorant, it is also described as sleep

because he that has reached that State does not see this (waking)-dream-world as

ignorant ones do; this meaning is cryptically expressed in the Gita verse:

" What is night for all (us) beings, is the time of awakening for the

self-realized (sage); and the time all (other) beings are awake, is night for

the enlightened sage. " Gita 2:69
