From the Garland of Guru's Sayings WHO Translation

Verse 231. As, when the sea overflows (the shore) no small creature can raise

its head (but is over-borne), so when the consciousness of the Self is in flood

the ego-thought cannot arise. (4)

(4) A State of Liberation is negatively described as the Egoless State; negative

descriptions are the most correct of all possible description, since no positive

description is possible (or ever possibly adequate).

Verse 232. Therefore there can be no sense of enjoyment for the Jivanmukta

(liberated, or sage); this State of purity transcends enjoyment, being freed

from the two poles of enjoyment and suffering. (5)

(5) All efforts at precise definition of the State of Liberation are bound to

fail, because words are instruments of the ego (only), and this State is

egoless.

this quotation is from the book, Guru--Ramana- -Vachana- -Mala by " Who,

published by Sri Ramanasramam
