Dear Harsha,

 

Thank you for this post. In this day and age when it seems that every popular spiritual

teacher claims not only to be “enlightened”, but to be an avatar,

it is so important that sincere aspirants ask themselves these questions and

turn the spotlight on themselves and their own quest. Is enlightenment a

product to be bought and sold in the market place? As you point out, it seems

that way more often than not. And gurus market themselves as aggressively as

car companies!

 

The key principles of inwardness have been preached since time immemorial. The

teaching is to look within, to cultivate purity and simplicity. And to work on

oneself to become free of all that binds one. It is much more important to be

an ideal student, rather than to focus on which guru is “best” and

get confused by the circus that so appears around him or her.

 

Thanks for raising these issues Harsha. As usual, you hone in on the wheat and

discard the chaff. I will continue to ask myself thses questions which you

raised.
