Sandy Crowther [sandy]Sunday, October 14, 2001 6:03 PM Subject: About Upapada (UL)

Dear Margarita and All,

Upapada or Upapada lagna (UL) is a pada used in judging the married life and the disposition of the spouse. It is calculated from the rashi chart as the sign that is as distant from the lord of the 12th as the lord is from the 12th. The upapada is simply the arudha pada of the 12th house. Normally planets posited in the UL show the kind of marriage and spouse one has. So depending on the assessment of the planets posited in the UL, (malefics or benefics) this will give the characteristics of the spouse of the native.

To calculate in Chart # 1 of the divorce charts, we have Gemini rising. Therefore we know that Venus is lord the 12th house, Taurus. Venus is posited in the 9th position from the 12th house, in Capricorn. So to find the UL, we simply count that many signs, which is 9 in this case, from the sign of Capricorn, and we arrive at Virgo – which is the Upapada lagna for this chart.

The 8th house from the UL (Aries) shows the longevity of the marriage, while the 2nd and 7th (Libra and Pisces) houses from the UL shows when the marriage will end, or a divorce occurs. When malefics are posited in these houses from the UL, (2nd or 7th) like the nodes, Saturn and Mars, this can cause serious problems for the marriage – possibly resulting in divorce.

When assessing these houses using UL, the nature of the marital partner and the length of the marriage are to be considered as two separate issues by evaluating the above. They are not the same. In other words one can have a long term marriage if Jupiter is in the 8th from UL, while malefics occupy the UL. So one can still have a marriage that lasts a long time because of the influence of Jupiter – but the spouse may be a aggressive or mean.

Hope this helps…J

Hello all,Sandy, I went through your mail but I'm not very familiar with the use ofUpapada so I just stuck to the AV system.Chart n°1 gemeini asc.I suppose we have to look first to the date of marriage and see which subscan bring this. There seems to be no delay in marriage because Jupiter is controllingSaturn, so I suppose the native must have married in Saturn main.Planets that could give results are Sun (samdh. to Mercury, lord D), Mercuryhimself and Saturn.Mercury is lord of D but has only 6 points for the 12th house which is animportant house for marriage in indian culture so I rule him out.Venus is lord of E but Venus has sight on house A so we have to look at itssamdharmi. As there seems to be no delay I suppose she married in Saturn/Saturn. Saturnis nice as samdharmi of Venus because is in Venus constellation and Venus isin Saturn navamsha. So there seems to be a relationship between them.If she divorced later, this would fit because then she married in the sub ofa planet with low points. As to the divorceNow we look at the 2nd house as B.Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Moon subs could give results but Mars and Jupiterare the most eager to give results. Mars' sub comes first. Mainlord Saturnis in Mars navamsha so I think she divorced in Saturn/Mars.We also note that 3 houses are getting a 0 point score : Venus for the 7th,Saturn for the 8th and Mars for the 9th, so this must bring some misery inher life.I will also go through the rules about marriage (lovemarriage, multiplemarriages,...) but I will not post this.Chart n°2 Taurus asc. There seems to be no delay for marriage so the planets that can give resultsin their sub are Sun,Mars, Moon and Rahu who fall in that time period. Sunand Moon have no relationship to mainlord.I think she married in Jupiter/Mars because Mars is a strong significator aslord of E in D. Mainlord Jupiter is related to Mars because Jupiter is inMars constellation and navamshaMoon sub comes first of course but Moon is not related to the main lord so Ithink it was MarsDivorce is unlikely in Jupiter main so se will look at Saturn main.I think the 1st possible sub would be Ketu. He is related to Saturn becausein Saturn constellation and he comes first. He is also samdharmi to Moon.Moon cannot give restuls for the 6th (12th from 7th) because of hisassociation with lord of 12 so I think Ketu can bring divorce.Next candidate will be Jupiter.chart n°3 cancer ascDelay is not indicated so she can marry early. I rule out Saturn dasha so Iwill look to the next.Mercury/Mercury seems nice because Mercury as lord ofE is together with Sun lord of A and with the NKAs to the divorce.Planets eager to give results are Lords of D and E : Venus and Saturn butVenus bukti comes soon after marriage. Venus is in Mercury navamsha. Shewill be giving results for B and C. So divorce is likely in Mercury/Venus.Well this is just a attempt. I will try to find out about upapada and seehow it works. Dear

Margarita and All,

Upapada or

Upapada lagna (UL) is a pada used in judging the married life and the

disposition of the spouse. It is calculated from the rashi chart as the sign

that is as distant from the lord of the 12th as the lord is from the

12th. The upapada is simply the arudha pada of the 12th house.

Normally planets posited in the UL show the kind of marriage and spouse one

has. So depending on the assessment of the planets posited in the UL, (malefics

or benefics) this will give the characteristics of the spouse of the native.

To

calculate in Chart # 1 of the divorce charts, we have Gemini rising. Therefore

we know that Venus is lord the 12th house, Taurus. Venus is posited

in the 9th position from the 12th house, in Capricorn. So

to find the UL, we simply count that many signs, which is 9 in this case, from

the sign of Capricorn, and we arrive at Virgo – which is the Upapada lagna for

this chart.

The 8th

house from the UL (Aries) shows the longevity of the marriage, while the 2nd

and 7th (Libra and Pisces) houses from the UL shows when the

marriage will end, or a divorce occurs. When malefics are posited in these

houses from the UL, (2nd or 7th) like the nodes, Saturn

and Mars, this can cause serious problems for the marriage – possibly resulting

in divorce.

When

assessing these houses using UL, the nature of the marital partner and the

length of the marriage are to be considered as two separate issues by

evaluating the above. They are not the same. In other words one can have a long

term marriage if Jupiter is in the 8th from UL, while malefics

occupy the UL. So one can still have a marriage that lasts a long time because

of the influence of Jupiter – but the spouse may be a aggressive or mean.

Hope this

Hello all,

Sandy, I went

through your mail but I'm not very familiar with the use of

Upapada so I

just stuck to the AV system.

Chart n°1

gemeini asc.

I suppose we

have to look first to the date of marriage and see which subs

can bring this.

There seems to

be no delay in marriage because Jupiter is controlling

Saturn, so I

suppose the native must have married in Saturn main.

Planets that

could give results are Sun (samdh. to Mercury, lord D), Mercury

himself and

Saturn.

Mercury is lord

of D but has only 6 points for the 12th house which is an

important house

for marriage in indian culture so I rule him out.

Venus is lord of

E but Venus has sight on house A so we have to look at its

samdharmi.

As there seems

to be no delay I suppose she married in Saturn/Saturn. Saturn

is nice as

samdharmi of Venus because is in Venus constellation and Venus is

in Saturn

navamsha. So there seems to be a relationship between them.

If she divorced

later, this would fit because then she married in the sub of

a planet with

low points.

As to the

divorce

Now we look at

the 2nd house as B.

Mars, Jupiter,

Saturn and Moon subs could give results but Mars and Jupiter

are the most

eager to give results. Mars' sub comes first. Mainlord Saturn

is in Mars

navamsha so I think she divorced in Saturn/Mars.

We also note

that 3 houses are getting a 0 point score : Venus for the 7th,

Saturn for the

8th and Mars for the 9th, so this must bring some misery in

her life.

I will also go through

the rules about marriage (lovemarriage, multiple

marriages,...)

but I will not post this.

Chart n°2 Taurus

asc.

There seems to

be no delay for marriage so the planets that can give results

in their sub are

Sun,Mars, Moon and Rahu who fall in that time period. Sun

and Moon have no

relationship to mainlord.

I think she

married in Jupiter/Mars because Mars is a strong significator as

lord of E in D.

Mainlord Jupiter is related to Mars because Jupiter is in

Mars

constellation and navamsha

Moon sub comes first

of course but Moon is not related to the main lord so I

think it was

Mars

Divorce is

unlikely in Jupiter main so se will look at Saturn main.

I think the 1st

possible sub would be Ketu. He is related to Saturn because

in Saturn

constellation and he comes first. He is also samdharmi to Moon.

Moon cannot give

restuls for the 6th (12th from 7th) because of his

association with

lord of 12 so I think Ketu can bring divorce.

Next candidate

will be Jupiter.

chart n°3 cancer

asc

Delay is not

indicated so she can marry early. I rule out Saturn dasha so I

will look to the

next.Mercury/Mercury seems nice because Mercury as lord of

E is together

with Sun lord of A and with the NK

As to the

divorce.

Planets eager to

give results are Lords of D and E : Venus and Saturn but

Venus bukti

comes soon after marriage. Venus is in Mercury navamsha. She

will be giving

results for B and C. So divorce is likely in Mercury/Venus.

Well this is

just a attempt. I will try to find out about upapada and see

how it works. I

hope some members post an upapapda analysis for this topic

so I could study

it.

Many thanks

Margarita
