Pranam Krushnaji,

Some very interesting questions were asked of me regarding

Ashtakavarga which were very basics and I believe are the basis of

Ashtakavarga system of prediction and I just had little understanding

and vague answers to those, I guess that shows my ingorance. I would

like to understand some very basic theories and fundamentals of this

wonderful system.

I shall be furnishing my thoughts on these questions and I would like

for your inputs.

I was looking at the first lesson wherein you have explained but need

more understanding.

I will break up the questions into various emails once I start

getting inputs.

1) Why is it called Ashtakavarga.

(My answer with some questions)

1) Ashta = 8 and Varga = Divisions. Why 8 divisions. What are the 8

divisions. You have mentioned Navamsa, Drekhenna, Trimsamsa and also

have made references to Shastiamsa (60th division) for checking if

the planets are occupying Malefic or Benefic Shastiamsa.

What did the Sages mean when they talked about Ashtakavarga.

Cheers !!!

Ash

Dear Ash,

These 8 divisions are not the " divisional charts " . It is a reference to the

8 charts used in the system. For each planet, the net beneficial effect of

contributions it does, or does not, receive from eight different sources.

Eight is the:

1. number of point-contributing locations involved, thus

2. the maximum amount of points that any planet can individually collect

within a sign/house, and also

3. the number of sectors into which a 30-degree sign is dissected (Kakshya).

These subdivisions are not used in the Krushna approch to the Ashtakavarga.

A kakshya is 1/8e of a sign. There are 8 of these sectors and each is ruled

by a different planet.

May I suggest you read DIGITAL ASTROLOGY by Richard Houck (Groundswell

Press)? It is the best book about the fundamentals of the ashtakavarga

system.

Best wishes

Denis
