Guest guest
Vyam Vysadevaya Namah --------------------- Dear Ash, Its been some time since i've made posts here, but here are answers to 2 of your questions: 1) Why is it called Ashtakavarga. It has nothing to do with Divisional Charts. Varga can mean any ype of division. Actually the 8 divisons calculated are those for; Lagna, the 5 Planets and 2 luminaries. That makes 8. 2) What is the Suklanta system of nomenclature given by Varaharamira ? Sukla-anta means; " End of Sukla " . Varahamihira came from a lineage, that counted the Months from the Full Moon. Full moon is when the Moon is strongest opposite for the New Moon. Experiment with reading New and Full Moon charts to see the effectiveness of predictions. This is used much in mundane Jyotish. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Vyam Vysadevaya Namah ------------------------ Dear Swee, No Shad means 6, and Astha means 8. Pancha, Shad, Sapta, Astha, Nava, Dosha. The 'Ka' in " Astha-Ka-Varga " , means 'same', or 'not going anywhere'. This is used to describe; Lagna-amsa-ka Dasa, in which we find the Lagnamsa(Navamsa Lagna) and see its position back in Rasi(ka=going back). So Astha-Ka-Varga, means " 8 divisons in the same division " . Otherwise you wrote the right pronounciation; " Asthta " Best wishes, Visti. , " Swee Chan " <swee@c...> wrote: > Om Gurave Namah > > Dear Visti, > > Asthta means 6 Varga means division. > > Swee > > > in_joy_i_scream [vlarsen@h...] > 23 January 2002 21:20 > > Ash's Questions > > Vyam Vysadevaya Namah > --------------------- > Dear Ash, > Its been some time since i've made posts here, but here are answers > to 2 of your questions: > > 1) Why is it called Ashtakavarga. > > It has nothing to do with Divisional Charts. Guest guest
Om Gurave Namah Dear All, Sorry Guys. Grr….. Correction. What was I thinking about the #6? There’s 5 planets+ 2 luminatries + lagna taken as reference points, and that makes it 8. Temporary glitch …… duh !
