My understanding is that a zero has two effects: 1. There is something missing in the area of life where a zero is placed. 2. Zeros also indicate the delay (first/second/third sector). However, are there any other effects due to zeros? How do we determine the antra period when the effect of the zero is most pronounced. When will the zero cause sufferings? So transits of malefics i.e. Shani and Mars over a house with zero points will give more trouble. Mars's transit is generally faster and shani is slower. So that is one aspect which we need to keep in mind. One also has to know the lagna. If we know the lagna we will know which house is owned by Shani and or Mars. Once you know that then you can idenfify the reason. Now when a house has zero it means that the house for which its ABC will be less in points in Worksheet. Which means such effects will be felt more during antra of the planet running. Shani is the only planet that can give 0 for the place it is situated in. You can check this in Lesson 1 by studying the BAV scheme. The Worksheet points will have the final say as it consider other facts in too like aspects, 4:10 etc. But we also have to study that along with Transits too. Mars for example with 0 in 4th house then the native might have problems owning property. Mars is bhoomikarak. Shani transitting a house with 0 points coupled with Guru you can judge financial crunch this you have to see with AD and WS points. As you pointed out, zeros also delays events in the antra and also the events like Marriage. They give some additional delays. So in short, zeroes in a chart means some deficiency for the house it is in. If say in 5th house then 5th is A for 10th so basic strength is A+B+C and here it will be 0+B+C so it would translate to lesser points. When that antra of the planet giving 0 is running person might change jobs or loose authority or might have to do some task or jobs with are much below his knowledge/capacity or abilities. Consider 5th is B and its male chart then A+B+C or 0+B+C points so if a planet is giving 0 then in that antra if total is less than 12 then person might not be able to have children in that antra or 5th also signifies change in job or loss of authority also. So it can also show such things. So here 10th and 5th both get affected so more possibility of changes in job or loss of job or authority. Similarly 5th house as C for lagna. Again it reflects on personality. If person looses job then again it might reflect on his personality. So one must see all things together and study from each angle.
