Graham,

It does. As far as I remember, there was a specific (and

complicated!) way to calculate the ayanamsha in the old worksheet. It

was not clear to me how it was done, however.

Ash,

I have look at the archives and could not find anything on the way

the ayanamsha is now calculated and what are its basis. Can you

kindly guide me to at least the month (and year, if needed) the

discussion took place, please?

Also, since the actual worksheet uses the swiss ephemeris, is there a

reason why we can not calculate a chart before 1900? Swiss ephemeris

allow the years 1800-2400 by default. Theorically, it should be

possible to calculate charts from -5400 to 5400, included...

It tried addind an ephemeris file (1800-2400) on the same directory

where is the worksheet, but it does not work.

Finally, I am wondering if someone on the list would kindly provide

me with a copy of the old spreadsheet, the " Krushna Ayanamsha

Calculator " ?

Dear François Carrière, The limitations of the years I beleive are based on Excel i.e. charts not being cast before 1900 year. Its got nothing to do with swiss ephemeris and what it is allowing me to do. The formula to calculate ayanamsa is not given. What I have written is that I keep repeatedly get asked on why the value of ayanamsa was changed and I have to reply again and again that the value of the starting date has not changed its was and is and will always be 24th Feb 366 AD for the start when the split took place. For the "reason" why the calculations differed has got nothing to do with any change in starting date. I hope I am clear. If you are interested in finding out details then you can use these 2 parameters 1) Starting date for Krushnas Ayanamsa or the date when the split took place is 24th February 366 AD. 2) The value of Krushnas Ayanamsa on 1st January 1900 is 21:33:23. You can take it from here and find out how the ayanamsa reached 21:33:23 in 1900/01/01 from 24th Feb 366 AD when the value was 0:00:00. If you know how to compute the ayanamsa i.e. the formula you should be able to work backwords and be able to

find out the unknown parameters. I hope that helps, Cheers !!! Hello Ash,

Thank you again for you kind answer and patience! ;-)

I wish to make clear that I do not at all disparage nor do I put in question

Krushna's ayanamsha. It has proven to be very efficient. I just wish to

understand better. Most softwares I use have the modern way to compute

charts and ayanamsha, and they will not work with the way KAY is computed.

So I need to do it by hands, at least to get a good approximation of the KAY

for a given date (if not available through the worksheet, from 1900 to

2400). One last question on this subject, then:

Ash <ashsam73 écrivit:

If I compute the ayanamsha for the next centuries, i.e. 1900, 2000, 2100,

2200, 2300 and 2400 on january 1st, will I get the correct Krushna

ayanamsha? This may help me to understand how to go back to the 0 date of

february 24, 366. At least it may help me to understand how the precession

rate is processed, since no other software I own can give the same results

as the KAS worksheet. That is very annoying.

For now I get:

1900: 21:33:23

2000: 22:57:11

2100: 24:21:01

2200: 25:44:53

2300: 27:08:47

2400: 28:32:43

Thank you for your kind patience.
