Guest guest
Nicely argued, Ruari and Katherine! Personally, I find the gendering of God (Gott, Dieux, Dios, Dio, etc.) in all Indoeuropean languages profoundly disturbing. To make things worse, " God " creates " Man " in " His " image. What does that make of Woman--a failed attempt or a defective specimen? One of the few things I remember from my high school philosophy classes is that attributing a gender to the Divine would cast a serious shadow on Its absolute nature. Bottom line: It's time to make a few changes in the way we talk about the Divine, and represent It to ourselves and others.
