Guest guest
Hello list! The sun is shining today in Iowa, yay! Okay...I have a confession to make:I'm still afraid of the dark. When in the dark, even in familiar territory, I can freak myself out. I don't know why really. There are times that I decide to stay focused and calm, trying to keep in mind that all is as it should be, and that there is nothing " wrong " with the dark. Its those times that I somehow stop the fear before it takes over; I make a new choice. The thing is, my fear is inconsistent. When I am getting ready to fall asleep, I want the darkness; it's when I am walking around in the dark, alone, that I sometimes feel fear. I feel silly, but as of now, its my reality. So my question is, can anyone relate to this fear, and if so, how do you personally manage it? Peace and love, Jessica
Guest guest
Hello Jessica, I do have the same fear, sometimes I am fine, but other times it is as if I feel someone looking at me or following me and I know deep down that I am really loosing it so when those moments occur which are more often than I would like to admit to, I simply state for my benefit " Go away, I know you are there " and then I feel fine, sometimes I have to say it more than once because I feel as if I just want to run to where someone is, but I know that I am just being silly so to be stronger than my fear I say that to help me feel better, and 99% of the time it works. I think I am really talking to my fear, but so I don't feel stupid I pretend I am talking to someone else. Try it, it might help! Guest guest
Hello Jessica, Try to seek out the goodness of the darkness. It is good and safe and secure. Much of the negative programming of the darkness is that it is dangerous as the body responds to the fight and flee encodings of the genetics of our past. Most attacks that would occur would happen at the dusk or the dawn when everyone is hunting..... Also the consciousness is opened in the darkness as the physical vision is diminished. Your thoughts take on a larger proportion and so it is necessary for you to be in a meditative and emotionally happy or clear space. So go slow and don't push yourself to fast, but allow yourself to become immersed in the darkness and really enjoy this 50% of who we are. Guest guest
Hi Jessica, I used to have this quite a lot, still do occasionally. When I was walking at night I would visualise a strong protector walking with me. Sometimes it was an animal, sometimes a god/dess, sometimes it was just 'my invisible friend'! I found that it really helped me. the other thing that helped was to follow the advice of a policeman who said to walk " like you're definitely going somewhere, not in too much of a hurry but a definite firm walk " He said that people who walked like that were far less likely to be attacked as they were not assuming a 'victim' posture. And somehow, when I walked as if I was confident I did find that I became calmed and less afraid. Sometimes though I do have moments of unreasoning terror in the dark, I am slowly learning that if I just let it flow through me, instead of trying to push it away, that it passes quite quickly. I suppose it's that almost Buddhist thing about non-attachment... then again, I love the bit in the safeties about remembering moments of joy, it's an amazing thing and that definitely can turn my moods around too. in love, peace and companionship Ruari > Jessica <jdehne88 wrote: > Hello list! Guest guest
Ruari, I like your ideas of dealing with dark so the next time I have that fear, I will visualize having a protector or whatever, being a god etc. with me, surrounding me! COOL deal! Thanks, Ruari! Much Love and Peace, Katherine ruari_neill <spirit wrote: Hi Jessica, I used to have this quite a lot, still do occasionally. Guest guest
Jessica, I used to be so afraid when I was in the dark. As I look back, I lived in fear (my family life) and that was where it manifested. I allowed myself to outwardly feel it in such a " reasonable " environment. At first I just used my mind to control my body by self talk. Later I actually dealt with the fearful life. Now I welcome the fears and use them as a guide. Fears are very powerful guides. Often they tell me exactly where I need to go. Being comfortable with fear is similar to becoming comfortable with hunger, pain, etc. Just another shift in consciousness. Just how I handled it. Guest guest
Dear Katherine I hope this may also help you. Darkness is responsible for the important healing ingredient melatonin that is made predominantly by the pineal gland. Sunlight is responsible for creating the important ingredient serotonin by the pituitary gland. serotonin is needed to produce melatonin, when both glands work in harmony one overcomes all sickness and disease as it adjust the quality and quantity of the other hormones. It is my belief and theory that the cause of most cancers are due to incorrect lighting conditions as well as other hormonal blockages due to the dysfunction of the endocrine system. Guest guest
John, Thank you for your words of knowledge! I really appreciate any help during this transition of spirituality and learning! Any bit of information can be passed to me as I won't turn it away! I will make sure I take plenty of walks on the beach and soak up as many rays as is allowed, although I try not to get to much sun because of precancerous mole I had a while ago and basal cell cancer on my nose, but I use the sun sparingly because of psoriasis, so now I know that my being in the sun will be for two good causes, not just one. Guest guest
John, you will one day experience that if that is your dream! Just believe in the reality of it and it will happen. I firmly believe that you want something bad enough it will come to you. Thanks for the information concerning the early morning rays! Ironically, I just returned home from visiting the beach. Digging my feet into it and watching the waves as they rush towards me and then crashing along the shore lines. I love the beach in the essence of it's beauty, tranquility, and peace, it has such life and vitality of its own, but I have never like it for swimming. I have always been afraid of the water because I can't see what lurks beneath the surface. I have also been afraid of it because I have a fear of drowning. I joke about it saying I must have died in a past life by drowning. I have never like the water even when I was a toddler. My dad said that I wouldn't have anything to do it then and as far back as I remember I never had. I asked him if something happened to cause my fear and he said not that he was aware of. So who knows! Anyway, I sat enjoying the beauty of it all! It was magnificent! Oh, a thought came to mind! My husband and I have always talked about how wonderful it would be to live close to the beach and be able to walk on it and admire the beauty of it when ever we wanted and look, we live within a very short walking distance from it. See, if you talk about it and visualize it being, it will. Thanks again for your knowledge and inspirations. Guest guest
Hi Katherine, You are so lucky to live so close to the ocean. I feel the same way, I don't like to swim in it, got knocked down and dragged under as child a few times, but I just love to sit and watch. My husband loves to get in and swim, feels the ocean water heals him. We were at Atlantic City Thursday and Friday, we got up to be on the beach at sunrise, it was beautiful. He took off his socks and shoes and waded in the surf, I just enjoyed the sunrise. Later, around noon, I just sat on the sand and meditated with the seagulls and the elements. It was wonderful, I felt such a sense of oneness with everything and inner joy. love and blessings, Robin - Katherine Miller Thursday, September 21, 2006 9:04 AM RE: Scared of the dark John, you will one day experience that if that is your dream! I asked him if something happened tocause my fear and he said not that he was aware of. Guest guest
Hi Robin, You are welcome to come and stay with us any time. We live in Satellite Beach, about 6 miles from Cocoa Beach. It is a beautiful place and so peaceful. God knew we needed to be here for so many reasons, my children especially! Anyway, it is so nice just sit and watch in action what God created and gave us! Where do you live? My sister, my older sister, lives up in King Prussia, Pa. I might take the boys up there this summer to visit. Ben Franklin is my 6th great uncle and so that would give my boys the opportunity to see some really great things that their ancestor started. I hope you have a wonderful day, and as I said you are more than welcome to come visit and hang out on the beach, so many beautiful places to go. We can even take the boat out on the river to ski or tubing, although I don't ski because I don't like that water either. Sometimes when we go out on the Banana River or the Indian River we see dolphins swimming in pods and it is so exciting. The rivers have islands strung through out them and we will pull off on the islands and watch the dolphins play. They come really close to the shore line and if you are brave you can go out and swim with them. I am not, so that is for the brave soul. Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful day and I am so glad that you had a wonderful time at the beach. Guest guest
Hi katherine, Thank you for the invite. I haven't been to Florida since about 10 years ago, my parents lived in Ocala, now they live in Summerfield. I would just love to swim with the dolphins , you should try it. The dolphins are very spiritual, healing beings. I live in the Poconos, I think King of Prussia is close to Philadelphia. Wow, related to Ben Franklin! You should bring the boys to Philadelphia, lots of history there. blessings and love, Robin - Katherine Miller Saturday, September 23, 2006 4:58 PM Re: Scared of the dark Hi Robin, You are welcome to come and stay with us any time.
