Guest guest
machine translation has a LONG way to go, however... for amusement, take the output of a " English to X " and then feed that result in to translate back " X to English " - it's generally good for a laugh. btw glossolalia is a documented neurophysiological phenomenon now, and so far no one has deduced any seeming patterning in the resulting babble, which corresponds with ANY known language even remotely. the area of the brain responsible for its production has also been found, at least in rough terms. -brian , chrism <> wrote: > > Yes your a quick learner with a translation program! - this is a good one and its in the links section. - > > selena230 <selena230 wrote: ... through http://babelfish.altavista.com > > This is glossolalia in the age of internet > > Sel >
Guest guest
So what else might you know about glossolalia, especially as it relates to the K? I started talking in tounges some time ago and it still happens when the energy is intense. There seems to be one set of "sounds" that happen most of the time but there have also been a Chinese sounding man and women and some sort of thing with clicks like in Africa. I have always been curious and have asked a few folks but sort of gave up and just accepted the phenomena as something that happens to me. Guest guest
hi, the research I'm aware of was conducted by the U. of Penn school of medicine and I believe publication is still forthcoming: http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2006-10/uops-lco103006.php and even more recently from the same people: http://www.slate.com/id/2153947/ from the first... " We noticed a number of changes that occurred functionally in the brain, " comments Principal Investigator Andrew Newberg, MD, Associate Professor of Radiology, Psychiatry, and Religious Studies, and for the Center for Spirituality and the Mind, at Penn. " Our finding of decreased activity in the frontal lobes during the practice of speaking in tongues is fascinating because these subjects truly believe that the spirit of God is moving through them and controlling them to speak. Our brain imaging research shows us that these subjects are not in control of the usual language centers during this activity, which is consistent with their description of a lack of intentional control while speaking in tongues. " Newberg went on to explain, " These findings could be interpreted as the subject's sense of self being taken over by something else. We, scientifically, assume it's being taken over by another part of the brain, but we couldn't see, in this imaging study, where this took place. We believe this is the first scientific imaging study evaluating changes in cerebral activity -- looking at what actually happens to the brain -- when someone is speaking in tongues. This study also showed a number of other changes in the brain, including those areas involved in emotions and establishing our sense of self. " from the second... " The scientists compared the brain activity of their subjects in two conditions—first while they sang gospel songs, and second as they engaged in trancelike glossolalia replete with ecstatic bodily experiences. According to the research report, they found diminished activity in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, which normally lights up when you're doing something on purpose. " The amazing thing was how the images supported people's interpretations of what was happening, " the study's lead author, Andrew Newberg, told the Times. If the test subjects said they were in a state of utter abandon, the pictures of their brains proved it. " and even more in support of my primary point (these phenomena as sub- rather than super-conscious manifestations): " Newberg noted that the glossolalia responses were the opposite of those of people in a meditative state. When people meditate their frontal lobe activity increases, while their parietal activity decreases. In meditation, one loses the sense of self while controlling one's focus and concentration. " glossolalia has also been linked strongly to schizophrenic episodes and such phenomena can be a common occurence among certain types of schizophrenics (sorry, I can't cite a source for you). cheers, -brian , kaliese wrote: > > So what else might you know about glossolalia, especially as it relates to the K?
