Guest guest
Wow, this thread about DMT is so interesting! I must say that I had never heard of it before. However, I just found the reference for a book titled " DMT: The Spirit Molecule " whose author claims that DMT is naturally produced by the pineal gland. Has anyone read it? Sam--I would be curious to hear more about the " elephant yoga " you mention in your post. My understanding is that the pineal gland corresponds to the sixth chakra (third eye), which is a favorite object of yoga meditation. In fact, in the yogic tradition, a " nectar " (amrita) is said to drip from the center of the brain (i.e., the pineal gland) onto the back of the tongue. This nectar is also the reason for the sweet scent that people often smell during a kundalini surge (I experienced it too, but only the first time my K went up). BTW: I apologize if the information above is redundant. I have very little time to spend on the web and I end up missing a lot of good conversations... Cheers, Sel

Guest guest
there is a paper you would probably be interested in, it has circulated the internet but a recent copy is available here: http://www.serendipity.li/dmt/eros.html " A combination of l-tryptophan and a short-term MAO inhibitor creates a favorable condition for the formation of psychoactive tryptamines within the human pineal gland. Tryptophan loading produces a significant increase in brain tryptophan levels and a subsequent increase in serotonin levels. When its major inactivation pathway is blocked by MAO inhibition, serotonin becomes a substrate for other pineal enzymes. Two methyltransferase enzymes, HIOMT and INMT, are capable of converting excess serotonin into a number of psychoactive derivatives. HIOMT, localized exclusively within the pineal gland, specifically catalyses the transfer of a methyl group to the oxygen located at the five position an the indole ring. In other words, HIOMT converts a 5-hydroxy-indole into a 5-methoxy-indole. This enzyme converts serotonin, 5-hydroxytryptamine, into a psychoactive compound called 5-methoxytryptamine. In turn, this compound becomes a substrate for INMT, another pineal methyltransferase enzyme. " personally I believe that the mechanism behind spontaneous spiritual experiences lies precisely in the innate ability of the brain and glandular system to internally and autonomously produce neurochemicals responsible for psychedelic consciousness, (probably bypassing the protective mechanisms that assail extraneous psychochemicals trying to do similar things) of which normal waking consciousness is itself a diminuition and which is ultimately derivative, and even an epiphenomenon of this. -brian , " selena230 " <selena230 wrote: > > Wow, this thread about DMT is so interesting! Guest guest
Yes Selena I have and have read the book. Though its been some time. As you say, He states that DMT is produced by the pineal gland and he quotes lots of sources. He like other scientists, strip what they feel the reasons are for the effects of Amanita Muscaria and Ayahuasca and other ethneogens down to what he feels are the component strucuters to explain their effects from a chemistry point of view. He cites experiements with DMT and research into it from a synthetic angle. Lots of Ayahuasca info in the book. -
Guest guest
DMT could possibly be produced by the pineal gland, but not necessarily; it is not disputed however, that 'Two methyltransferase enzymes, HIOMT and INMT, are capable of converting excess serotonin into a number of psychoactive derivatives.' and it is unknown whether or not this includes dimethyltryptamine at present. what is NOT unknown is that HIOMT enzyme is produced exclusively by the pineal gland. the 'mechanism' being " just some physiology " in no way implies that the experience per se is nothing but an epiphenomenon of the chemical reaction. and its occurence internally might be subjectively quite different than that of an externally-introduced chemical. -brian , " chrism " <> wrote: > > Yes Selena I have and have read the book. Guest guest
Ah, Terrence McKenna. I attended several very intense seminars with he and the gang, mostly in Mexico and Hawaii and there was much information shared but as the days would go by we all gotr so high on just being around Terrence and also Jonathan Ott we could hardly think no less absorb what was being presented. What a wonderful man he was.
