Guest guest
Hello, all! I think we have a lot of ideas what ego is. Many seem to equate ego with even things like vanity and " showiness " . The definition I live with is more of a simplistic one. You have the part of God in the Human body (I'll just call it " inner self " ). You have a thinking mind. That is a useful tool. My definiton of ego then is not just the thinking mind, but " Letting the thinking mind control you to the point of misery " . To avoid this, use the mind as a tool, then drop it. Use it for daily task. Then go back to the " inner self " for wisdom. Can you be considered intelligent if you behave this way? Apparently Einstein got his creativity this way (as apparently have all of the " Masters " of any art). I believe James was speaking of " trying to act spiritual " . I think I've been there (maybe once or twice-LOL!!!). In Christianity this is sometimes referred to as being a 'hypocrit'. If it is an act, deep down inside you will be aware of it. Yes, it is the ego at work. Ego doesn't mean so much that you are 'bad'--'evil' or 'phony'... it just is a way of 'being' that hurts a person in the long run. A better way is to " just be " . Think with your whole body, refer to the " inner self " . So if your natural self is to be happy and outgoing----it will come out. Actually, when you ARE 'at one'---you CAN'T AVOID being happy and outgoing! This is the natural state for all beings! As always, describing the natural state, the state which cannot be decribed with words (ie: The Tao that can be spoken is not the real Tao...)can cause confusion. When you stumble across the present state in your journey, your entire being will know! Then you may exclaim: " Damn! I knew this all along! " ......or something similar .---Because it is where you came from...and where you are returning to! OK...I've thought too much! I'm going back to " no mind " ..>click!<. :) Blessings! :) SC , " James " <milliondegrees wrote:..... > > " Know exactly what u mean. > I'm finding the best way is to just stop filling gaps and asking > yourself who you really are, what u really want and what u really > want to say, then when it feels " perfect " , then speak. Guest guest
Yes Brian I appreciate entirely with where you see your spiritual path in relation to its ego generated interactivity with the external environment. I hope that makes sense to you? Currently I am experiencing some profound lessons which extend beyond the written expression. Lessons with their grounding in dualistic synchronicities. I believe breakthroughs within my gross/primal/basic/raw aspects of what we imagine the ego to be, have provided the opportunity to experience these states. It really is as chrism has stated on more than one occasion 'an evolution of the ego'. The Buddhists (and many others) believe we must work towards a dissolution of ego. I used to wonder how this could be so, when (to my perceptions) our ego was (for better or worse) a necessary aspect of our selves. Of course it was my ego's defensiveness that stopped me from seeing the whole picture- that dissolution is also the nirvana they ultimately seek and in the inter em are many levels of conditioning and evolution of this perceived separateness which in actuality doesn't exist. love and (en) light (ening), glen o. > > > We as humans are the only beings that chatter away > and > > we think that makes us " better " then the animals, > I > > find it more a set back. > :-) actually animals communicate all the time, but > not through verbal > means... if you watch them, you find they are at > least as active and > responsive to the environment as any chattering > monkey. > > > I don't even enjoy talking about my beliefs of > spirit > > , it's a personal inward journey and when spoken > about > > I feel it alsmost lessons it. > likewise, this place aside (and Glen's list before > it). > > -brian
