Hello, group!

I really love gardening, and my husband and I both

really put a lot of work into our back yard, which is

sort of like a courtyard because there is no grass, it

is covered with patio stones in one area and cement in

another (we didn't put the cement there, this is an

85-year-old house and grounds). It is enclosed on

three sides by wooden fencing, and it is completely

shaded by a huge live oak. So, we use plants that

like shade/partial sun...lots of ferns and

impatiens...but have also had success with sun-loving

plants like aloe and jade.

I took a couple of photos of our courtyard and started

an album in the Photos section...I invite you to take

a look at one of my favorite places to be!!! I just

wish I could meditate out there...too many mosquitos

and 'noseeums' (anyone who lives in the deep south

knows what I mean by that! lol). We live on the

Atlantic coast (literally a quarter of a mile from the

ocean) so we get the loveliest breeze off of the

ocean!

Enjoy,

Claudia

Beautiful Claudia! The funny thing is your garden was in one of my

meditations or dreams in the past few weeks. The first picture with

the birdbath in it. Isn't that bizarre?

Yes, I had a lovely yard, large too! Roses, bulbs, trees, tomatoes, peppers,

hibiscus, aloes, a lot!

Down here we are in military housing and we can't plant anything. We were

thinking about buying a house, but we don't want to have to pay the high taxes

and insurance. The tax rate down here is horrible, nothing like GA, at least GA

where you and I live and lived. I want my own house! Oh, well! When the time is

right we shall have one. I do have a few plants that can survive in pots, but

that is it.

Plant one for me my southern sis!

Katherine

That sounds beautiful...I know you miss it. I forgot

about the military...that must really make you long

for your own home. But you're right...the time will

come when you'll have your own home again! In the

Very lovely, thanks Claudia.

I love the pink flower, so vibrant against the darker greens.

A little peice of paradise.

Thanks, Elektra! Don't know if you noticed some

lattice in the background in the second photo...one of

our compost heaps is behind that. We keep 2 compost

heaps going at all times, one active (we're adding

food scraps and leaves to it) and one 'cooking.'

Right now, we have one that is active and one that is

ready to use...beautiful, black, rich soil that we

made ourselves! Our compost grows the most beautiful

foliage! Very gratifying.

YOU are a little piece of paradise, Elektra,

I absolutely understand what you mean by the critters. I grew up in

Mississippi and now live in Georgia. They be bad! As far as your

Jade and Aloe plants are concerned I have had great luck w/them. I

keep them indoors in a room that gets really hot. I only water them

when they look like they need it.

Namaste!

Hi, Pamela! Your success with raising Jade & Aloe

inside is great! Our little bungalow is so small that

we have very few indoor plants. Our climate is so

warm here that we can leave the succulents outside

year-round, unless it's going into the teens for

several nights in a row. That hasn't happened in 3 or

4 years. Where is GA do you live? We used to live in

Athens (for 30 years)...and I still miss it, but it

sure is nice being on the coast.
