Dear Stephen,

 

You certainly used your terrible childhood

constructively, and it is inspirational. So many

people in your situation would be perpetuating the

Hell in their own families and communities now.

 

Ah, silence. I am visiting a sweet old woman in my

neighborhood these days. She sits out on her porch in

the afternoons. She's 88 and doesn't have much of a

memory left; she repeats herself often. I listen each

time as if it's the first time I've heard it. But the

best times are when we just sit and don't talk at all.

It's such a comfortable...and comforting...silence.
