Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I hope you had a wonderful day! I just wanted to share with you my experience at the Daily Bread, a kitchen for the homeless and disabled, that is opened 7 days a week and 365 days a year. I have never ever seen a kitchen for the homeless and disabled other than on television, utterly my loss. It opens at 6:00 a.m. in the morning where volunteers, court ordered community service people, and high school community service people come together. The day begins with the preparation of food. Every day they serve a 7 course meal with food donated from local companies and food drives. At 10:30 a.m. the doors open for service. I had the honor today to hang with some amazing people from all walks of life and the ones that impressed me the most where the homeless and the disabled. It honored me to be able to help the ones who could not carry their trays through the line as it was filled with foods that were amazingly delicious. There were people of all ages and I sincerely mean all ages that came to have a hot meal. The most amazing thing was that it was a " DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL " acceptance. All that was required was the name of each person who came to eat. My heart went out to them full of love and compassion for each one of them. I didn't see myself above them, but equal to them. Amazing! There was a guy there who had to do community service via court order. At the end of the day he asked me what brought me to the kitchen. I told him that I had always looked for a true way of giving to the community and when this opportunity arose I jumped on it. He asked me how did I like it and told him that no words could describe how I felt being allowed to serve this unique individuals. When he started to leave to go home, it would be his last required day at the kitchen, but in my heart I could feel he may do it again, not because he has to, but because he wants to. He told me that it was an honor to meet me and that I was an inspiration to him! He said that I was one terrific person with a beautiful smile and it was his honor to have served the people with me today. All in all I know that I touched everyone's life just as they touched mine! I was so HONORED to be there today, one of many to come in the future, with and without church. I gave the kitchen my number to call when they need me. I am so full of gratitude and love for having such an inspiring experience, one that I look forward to again. Everyone MUST do this type of service. Donating cans of food during food drives is one thing. Actually seeing it being put to use is something more than AMAZING! Thank you! Love, Katherine
