Guest guest
In my experience with forgiveness, we need to forgive ourselves even as we forgive the transgressor. Let me explain. Even though you are forgiving the person who hurt you, you must also forgive yourself for " allowing " them to hurt you, affect you in the way that they have. Here is an example from my vast arsenal, lol. One day I came home and my now EX husband was waving around pages from MY JOURNAL!! He had not only read it, but took it out of the house and photocopied pages from it! He then began asking me to clarify things that were in it. There were already problems, so he got an eyeful of something he didn't want to see. My sympathy was low, lol. For YEARS after that incident my face would get red and I would get angry when I thought of it. Long after I felt I had forgiven him. I thought deeply about why it still bothered me and I figured out that it was because I hadn't forgiven myself for what happened. Maybe this is not the case with you, but it was my stumbling block at one time. Guest guest
I can agree with being able to forgive yourself first for letting them get to you, but their act, their wrong doing, for me is difficult to overcome. Yes, I have forgiven him, but to recall a past event of an incident gets me angry deep inside. The scenary, I will share, is that the husband spanked my then 12 week old for crying, causing many bruises on her behind and legs. The hate I felt for him then was intense, the pity I also felt for his stupidity was also intense. He should be in jail for his actions, I thought. (thankfully, no internal injuries). Last year, we were in an argument and I brought that up, and he replied, 'get over it!'. I know he hates himself for his actions, but I don't know if the anger will lift in me, nor do I know how to lift that anger. The protector inside me is always wondering when the monster inside him will come out again. He's never repeated those actions. So I say, I understand forgiving them and yourself, but the residue of the anger remains. What to do? ---- Sarita <sarita1969 wrote: > In my experience with forgiveness, we need to forgive ourselves even > as we forgive the transgressor. Let me explain.
