Guest guest
Hello, Reg, Do not become discouraged. The fact that you are here and trying to be honest says a lot in itself. Also, the fact that you see it can be a difficult struggle. Many may not think so, and they would be the ones with the bigger impediment. In this one post alone, you have expressed humble appreciation and shown great compassion. I'd say you're on the right track. I agree with that progress is being made all the time with the accrual of experience, observing the outcomes of our choices, etc., whether we are consciously trying or not. Now, I'm going to do a bit of speculating, here, not really knowing you from Adam, so if I get things 100% wrong, then sorry for wasting your time and you can just toss it; no harm done. Okay? I just had so many ideas come as the result of reading your post, that I will speak generally here, and whatever you may be able to take away from it will be an added bonus. THE PAIN THAT OBSTRUCTS You may be handling a lot of pain and disappointment right now, maybe guilt, On and feel you have enough of the negative on your plate without opening up the can of (inner) worms. (Gee, that sounded gross, didn't it?) You may even feel overwhelmed with negativity in your life. I'm getting the sense that you may need to focus for a time on self- kindness and nurturing rather than self-mortification at this time. Of course, purging our burdens is a great kindness to ourselves, but if we can not quite see it this way, we may be in need of intensive self-care and building up first. If it is " too much " right now to peer into the dark corners and scrutinise deficiencies, may I suggest you start by simply paying attention to what makes you feel really good and right? ACCENTUATE THE POSITIVE Focussing on positives are just as important, if not more so than realising and airing the negatives. Maybe it is a different way of coming at the same thing. This may not be easy, either, but you can make it fun, like an experiment. Simply notice when you are feeling particularly yourself, your relaxed, confident, authentic and comfortable self. When do you feel excellent, authentic, proud of yourself, closer to others, more trustful of the world, happy, calm? Make a point of noticing these moments for the next few weeks, then try to work out what the cause or precondition is for the uplift. If we feel out of touch with ourselves or our feelings, we may begin by simply noticing how we feel physically, " in our gut, " and how we react in our body to different things we think about and experience. Sometimes, we are so used to feeling bad, we don't even notice it. On the other end of things, feeling good may feel so different when it comes along, we may resist its strangeness and smother it. Once you can track what you are feeling and how you are responding to your own thoughts and external stimuli, you are in a position to ask what thoughts or feelings or self talk precede your stomach relaxing, your posture straightening, a big exhalation or refreshing, deep intake of breath. Have you just noticed a beautiful sunset? Have you laughed with a child? Did you smile at a stranger, make someone laugh, encourage them? Did you laugh at yourself? Physically touch someone? Read something affirming? Did you notice something so right about yourself? Did you observe a talent or uniqueness in yourself? Did you allow yourself a treat, a free pass, a late morning without abusing yourself for it? Did you approve of yourself? FILLING THE HUNGRY SPACES WITHIN Pay attention to what conditions you like to be in, and once you've practised this attention and noticing for awhile, you may find yourself creating these circumstances on purpose (either subconsciously or consciously) in order to maximise and increase the frequency of these moments. We can accustom ourselves to happiness and habitualise the creation and enjoyment of lighter moments. This exercise is about giving ourselves what we need, about dispelling that feeling of deficit, lack, impoverishment, the feeling of having to cling to everything because we're lucky to have whatever we have, whatever it is. Everything is in short supply, so hold on to it! If we ask for more, we probably won't get it. Some call this way of thinking " poverty consciousness. " That's a psych. term, not a spiritual one, but sure sounds like one to me. You've heard that a closed hand is not in a position to receive? Same principle. I get a feeling that you may not know yourself very well. If you don't have a very high opinion of yourself or can't appreciate your gifts and offerings, it is likely you could stand to know yourself better and may be harboring some fear of finding out who you are. LEARNING YOURSELF When we get to know someone, we tend to see the good parts first, then a long way down the road, we may begin to notice the imperfections. But, if we are friendly sorts, by this time we like the person and can easily overlook the shortcomings of a dear friend. Be kind with yourself and learn all your positive attributes and appreciate all you have to offer first. If no one ever told you these things, validated or affirmed you, you must learn to tell yourself and affirm yourself as a good parent would. Nothing about you is a mistake or for nought or " wrong. " It is all intentioned, artfully designed, and laden with purpose. It will all contribute to meting out the glory of your deepest being. Self acceptance, and then self knowledge. Once you accept this, that you are a magnificent being in yourself, immortal and sufficient, that you are not what you have done or what has been done to you, that these things are what have happened in relation to you as part of the design of the process and are not *you,* you can feel secure in yourself and open to self exploration. And once you know a bit of who you are, and can point to definite, concrete character traits that you like in yourself, feel the fear of disappearing subside. You are somebody, and that somebody is like nobody else and fits in the world into a slot that only you are able to fill. At this point, you are grounded in a sense of self and are ready to spend quiet moments, maybe even hours with yourself, alone and with no noisy intrusion or distraction. You can enjoy your own company as much as you enjoy anything else. Your feet aren't dangling free, looking for the first solid structure to rest upon (opinion of others, arbitrary and worldly " success markers, " self-imposed conditions on being, etc.). You've spent time with yourself and enjoyed it. The world seems a bit kinder. Now, and only now, are you ready to let go. LETTING GO OF YOURSELF; FINDING YOURSELF A visualisation at this point might be to imagine you are insubstantial, porous, non-solid, and there is a delicious, warm breeze blowing through you, making you tingle in every cell, relaxing and stimulating you at once, making you come alive as never before. If you remain solid, the wind will collide with you and curve round you, encircling you. It will still feel pleasant, but you won't be taken away on blissful currents as you would if you were semi- transparent. The more you let go of the tangible, the deeper those invigorating sensations, the more profound the ecstasy. It's the type of feeling we can not be responsible for, only ever surrender to. Hear the breeze as it caresses you, and curls round your ear, whispering to you, saying your name. This is part of the grand paradox, that when we let go of our notions of who we are, only then can we get closer to a full understanding of who we really are. Only when we silence our own voices speaking our notions of our identity can we hear our name pronounced from a higher source. It will be the sweetest sound ever, like coming home. x, Droxine P.S. Again, Reg, take only as much as you feel applies to you. I went with these thoughts in case they might help someone here. , " regcorleonis " <regcorleonis wrote: > > & Droxine – I am in awe. Guest guest
It can be frightening so go slow and take small steps or just stop for a time and process what you can from a different angle. I have had to do this as well. I had such phenomena that I just had to stop. Regain by perspective and confidence and move on again. There is no rush my friend. Let this come as you can work with it not against it. - blessings Reg - chrism
