Guest guest
Hey everyone, I planted some watermelon seeds from my last watermelon and they grew pretty easily. A bit late in the season this year though... Anybody have some suggestions for the following? What's the best way to store the seeds if I save them for next year? When should I plant them next year? Can I give them a few weeks head start by growing them iniside, then putting them out? How far apart to plant? How much room do they need? Lots of sunlight, or a little? I was going to take you up on your offer for seeds Chrism, but why risk trouble with Customs... haha. lots of love, bradly
Guest guest
Hi Bradly, my brother-in-law, Dub was a watermelon farmers and my sister and I ate lots of watermelon when we were young and we were required to collect all the seeds from the watermelons given us and we had to spread them out on paper and place them in the sun for a day or so to make sure they were completely dry on both sides. Then we gathered them. I do not know where he stored them for the next year though. I'm sure it was probably in containers where bugs could not get to them. Here is a couple of websites telling how to grow and when. http://www.gardenersnet.com/vegetable/watermel.htm http://www.wikihow.com/Grow-Watermelons Blessing, Linda , " curball2002 " <curball2002 wrote: > > Hey everyone, > > I planted some watermelon seeds from my last watermelon and they grew > pretty easily. Guest guest
I wonder if Dub would give us the benefit of his knowledge in this area? Might take his mind off other things - just a thought. What do you think Linda? - c
Guest guest
I am sure all his knowledge on this is lost. His dementa has increased really bad since I talked to him in Feb. When my sister visited him this week he did not even acknowledge her, was just staring straight ahead as though he was not really in there any more. He was doing that with everyone. Never said a word the whole time she was there. He was a watermelon farmer for a good 40 years. Grew one of the largest watermelons recorded. That year, him and his brother sent it to the President at the time. I think it was Johnson, Uck! I could get the info from his brother, but his brother is one of the ones who has turned on my sister. They did not like the ideal of her putting him the nursing home and now he is back in one in less than a years since they kidnapped him out. Crazy situation.
